New York eHealth Collaborative: Paralegal
New York eHealth Collaborative (NYeC) is a not-for-profit organization working in partnership with the New York State Department of Health to improve healthcare by collaboratively leading, connecting, and integrating health information exchange across the State.
Founded in 2006 by healthcare leaders, NYeC works to help New York State achieve the Triple Aim of improving the patient experience of care, delivering better health outcomes, and reducing costs. On behalf of the State, NYeC leads the Statewide Health Information Network for New York (SHIN-NY), a network connecting healthcare providers statewide, develops policies and standards that support the utilization of health technologies, and assists healthcare providers in adopting and effectively using electronic health records.
Position Summary :
NYeC is seeking an experienced Paralegal to join our small but nimble legal team to provide hands-on, in-house support across all applicable departments. The primary focus will be contracts management, research, committee meeting support and other support duties as assigned. This position reports directly to the NYeC Attorney and will work closely with internal and external stakeholders. This role will be based in the Albany office.
Responsibilities include:
+ Prepare initial drafts, update and maintain all contract and related document files in a timely manner; oversee filing of contracts and contract workflows for the entire organization;
+ Monitor and communicate progress of contract workflow. Ensure timely and accurate creation and execution of vendor and grant contracts;
+ Interact with vendors, clients, and colleagues as needed to ensure contract accuracy. Answer routine inquiries, and refer complex issues to appropriate staff;
+ Perform, document and summarize legal research;
+ Support appropriate staff in the development, preparation, review and execution of legal documents, including but not limited to contracts, organizational policies and procedures, and correspondence;
+ Support appropriate staff in preparing for committee meetings and document proceedings by readying meeting materials and drafting minutes.
+ Maintain current knowledge of applicable federal and state laws to assist in ensuring organizational adaptation and compliance;
+ Monitor organization’s compliance with grant requirements including but not limited to adherence to insurance obligations, federal or state funding terms, reporting requirements and HIPAA compliance;
+ Additional duties and projects as assigned or required;
+ Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Experience:
+ Bachelors’ degree (B.A.) or equivalent with a major, minor or concentration in paralegal studies;
+ Three to five years’ experience as a paralegal, legal secretary, contracts assistant or grant coordinator, or a similar position;
+ Extensive experience in legal research, contract management, and state and federal compliance requirements;
+ Excellent verbal and written communication, thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as Westlaw;
+ Microsoft Office 365 proficiency, especially SharePoint, Outlook calendars and PowerPoint;
+ Agiloft a plus;
+ Sound and timely decision-making skills as well as exceptional attention to detail;
+ Absolute confidentiality;
+ Ability to support dual office locations and across all levels of the organization;
+ Flexible, creative and innovative;
+ Willing to expand duties as requested or required.
Expectations of Employees:
+ Employees work a hybrid in-office schedule (at either our Manhattan, NY or Albany, NY office and then remotely). Barring specific exemptions, team members are expected to work from the office on a regular schedule determined by the CCOO and on other days specified by their manager (no less than 1 day per week in the office). This schedule is subject to change.
+ NYeC supports work happening across New York State. From time to time our team members must visit other parts of the state. The most common requirement is for a New York City based team member to travel to Albany and vice versa.
We consider a wide range of factors when determining compensation, which may cause compensation to vary depending on your skills, experience, qualifications, and home office location (Manhattan, NY vs. Albany, NY). The annual base salary range for this role for an Albany based candidate is $65,000 -$75,000. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s salary history at other jobs, and by law, NYeC will not seek information about salary history, and candidates should not share such information with NYeC.
