About the Role & Program:
Join the Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Technology team as a Software Engineering Intern and help build the next generation of creative tools that power world-class filmmaking. Work hands-on with leading software solutions critical to film production pipelines, collaborating closely with senior engineers to enhance performance, resilience, and user experiences for a suite of production applications. You’ll benefit from mentorship, professional development sessions, and the latest AI and large language model-based toolsets to accelerate learning and impact.
What You Will Do:
+ Assist in profiling and optimizing performance-critical code paths across production applications using industry-standard tools and techniques.
+ Analyze and improve system resilience by simulating failure scenarios, monitoring error recovery, and collaborating in remediation strategies.
+ Partner with senior engineers and UX designers to brainstorm, prototype, and refine new features or workflow improvements within software used by production teams.
+ Write clean, maintainable code using modern Python, Go, or JavaScript, and contribute to the continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) workflow alongside version control systems like Git or Gitlab.
+ Contribute automated tests, scripts, and monitoring solutions to ensure reliability and traceability in production environments.
+ Participate in regular code reviews, team standups, and agile planning, with feedback from Disney technologists and artists.
+ Leverage embedded AI/LLM tooling to augment productivity, knowledge discovery, and solution brainstorming.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
+ Currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
+ Familiarity with at least one modern programming language relevant to production technology (Python, C++, JavaScript, Go).
+ Strong problem-solving ability and willingness to learn new technologies rapidly.
+ Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills:
+ Experience or coursework in developing resilient backend systems
+ Experience or coursework in user experience or user interface (UX/UI) design
+ Exposure to cloud technologies, Linux environments, or multimedia workflows.
+ Demonstrated interest in the intersection of technology and filmmaking.
Education:
+ Junior or Senior year preferred
+ Major or previous coursework in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Management Information Systems, or a related field.
Eligibility Requirements & Program Information:
+ Be enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a degree taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program AND returning to school the semester/quarter following the internship OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Internship.
+ Current Disney Interns, College, International, or Culinary Program Participants: You may only work for ONE consecutive year (12 months) in any combination of an internship and/or program.
+ Be at least 18 years of age
+ Possess unrestricted work authorization
The pay rate for this role in Burbank, CA is $42.00 per hour.
