Position Summary
HIGHLIGHTS
The SUNY Geneseo Facilities Department is looking for a reliable and dedicated individual to join our team as a Facility Operations Assistant 1 (Utilities).
As a Facility Operations Assistant 1 (Utilities), you will be responsible for assisting in the operation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical, electrical, and control equipment providing heat, hot water, ventilation, and air conditioning. Under supervision, you will maintain and repair boilers, pumps, controls, other power plant auxiliary equipment, and electrical and mechanical stationary equipment.
Required Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
There are no education or experience qualifications for this class. Applicants must be physically able to perform the tasks of the position and be able to understand and carry out written or oral instructions. When required to operate motor vehicles, incumbents must possess a valid New York State driver’s license appropriate for the type of vehicle being operated.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
+ Mechanical and/or electrical experience
+ Record of dependability and past work performance, including satisfactory time and attendance record.
+ Willingness to learn the utilities trade

Job Duty/Responsibility
Function 1: Assist in the routine maintenance of equipment
+ Clean heating and utility areas
+ Clean and polish operating equipment
+ Clean parts and equipment that are being overhauled
+ Lubricate machinery in the boiler, chiller, pump, and mechanical equipment rooms based on the schedule
+ Paint heating, ventilating, and air conditioning ( HVAC ) equipment and related areas
+ Perform specific tasks as directed in performing maintenance and repairs on mechanical and electrical equipment, steam, gas, and water lines, and other related plumbing, heating, or ventilation equipment
+ Assist in the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the high-pressure steam and heating hot water satellite boilers and their related auxiliary systems
+ Maintain all boiler rooms in a clean, well lit, and safe condition at all times

Function 2: Hands-on Learning
+ Perform specific tasks in operating utility plant equipment including heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment to learn operating procedures
+ Participate in in-service training courses and on-the-job instruction in the fundamentals of utility plant operation and engineering

Function 3: Miscellaneous
+ Pick up and deliver parts
+ Take meter readings which may include gas, water, and electric meters
+ Maintain neat and accurate logs
+ Perform daily inspection tours of all satellite boiler rooms, observe operating conditions, and make appropriate notations in boiler logbooks
+ Provide assistance in the sampling, testing, and chemical treatment of satellite boilers
