    Position Description:

    Contributes to the university’s mission through teaching and service, some variation by academic unit.

    Major/Essential Functions:

    + Admits, evaluates, diagnoses, and manages hospitalized newborns in the newborn nursery, intermediate/special care nursery, or neonatal intensive care unit setting

    + Coordinates care and provides medical management for newborns born at greater than 32 weeks gestation, critically ill, or requiring surgical intervention.

    + Delivers neonatal care in collaboration with neonatology faculty, including management of conventional mechanical ventilation, up to 24 hours

    + Ensures compliance with HIPAA and billing regulations

    + Adheres to institutional and departmental policies and procedures

    + Upholds and promotes the values-based culture of TTUHSC El Paso

    + Serves the academic community through participation in institutional governance, such as committee work and other administrative duties

    + Contributes to the community through academically related public service, complementary to the institutional mission

    + Engages in the advancement of scientific knowledge through research and/or scholarship

    + Demonstrates professionalism in accordance with the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine's Declaration of Faculty Professional Responsibility

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Board certification in general pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics or the American Osteopathic Board of Pediatrics

    + Progressive experience in management and leadership in an academic health center

    + Successful completion of an ACGME-accredited Pediatric Hospital Medicine Fellowship Program for the rank of Assistant Professor or higher

    + Bilingual (English and Spanish)

    + Emerging or established regional or national professional reputation for the rank of Associate Professor or higher

    + Experience in teaching students and residents in pediatric hospital/neonatal medicine
