Job Description
The Senior Instructional Consultant for Artificial Intelligence (AI), under direction, is responsible for serving the department in collaboration with university faculty, graduate students, and staff to enhance and advance excellence in teaching and to improve student learning through the ethical integration and use of generative AI in instruction and research.
Applicants must be authorized to work for any US employer. The department is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa at this time.
Responsibilities:
+ Design, develop, and implement AI models and applications. Conduct AI model testing and fine-tuning. Develop and maintain prompt library. Understand and translate instructional and research needs into AI models and solutions. Identify and evaluate generative AI tools for use in teaching and research. Use AI models and tools to produce text and media content.
+ Offer, facilitate, and present professional development programs, workshops, and seminars on: ethical use of generative AI use in instruction, research, and prompt engineering. Conduct on-site and virtual faculty development workshops.
+ Facilitate faculty learning communities related to generative AI. Assist faculty in establishing research designs to assess effectiveness of generative AI and in identifying means to share their educational scholarship, and co-authoring as the collaboration warrants. Collaborate with faculty on grants related to teaching and learning with generative AI and assist faculty in design of the technical component of grant proposals and provide letters of support upon request.
+ Conduct and disseminate informal and formal research on national dialogues related to generative AI use in higher education and educational research. Contribute to the national dialogue and publication of educational blogs, journals, and articles related to faculty development and scholarly teaching and learning.
+ Assist in creating and developing strategies and policies regarding instruction and research with generative AI. Assist and collaborate with other educational developers on research projects in the educational use of generative AI.
Minimum Qualifications:
+ Master's Degree
+ Six years of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Proficient in prompt engineering with experience in at least one major AI platform, such as OpenAI API, Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, etc. Experience in instructional design, instructional technology, faculty development, computer science, or information technology. Experience in Python and/or Javascript. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and ability to translate technical information to non-technical users.
Minimum Salary: $70,000
Hours: Monday - Friday; 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Supervision of Others: This position does not typically include supervisory responsibilities.
Work Location: Remote work may be permitted, as determined appropriate by the supervisor. The selected candidate may be required to work on-site and travel frequently, depending on project needs.
