    College Assistant- Worker Education Program Assistant

    GENERAL DUTIES

    - Under supervision, performs miscellaneous clerical, administrative, research or other work related to the operation of a College or other unit where such work is required on a part-time basis or for a period of limited duration.

     

    - There is one Assignment Level for this position. All personnel perform related work. This specification describes typical assignments; related duties may be assigned as

     

    needed.

     

    - Maximum tenure for any employee in this hourly position is 1040 hours per year.

     

    - Performs routine clerical work; may answer and attend to telephone calls; maintain records,

     

    operate office machines (such as copier), sort and distribute mail, issue keys and identity cards,

     

    act as messenger, and perform related tasks as required.

     

    - Types letters, memoranda, charts, and similar materials.

     

    - Acts as cashier.

     

    - Assists in statistical or research activities. May collect and compile data, code data for computer entry, perform data entry, and run computer reports.

     

    - Performs clerical library work, such as sorting and shelving books, performing data entry into library systems, or binding books and periodicals.

     

    - Assists in instructional programs, including tutoring and assisting students in areas such as reading and mathematics. May assist in speech and hearing therapy, provide musical accompaniment, and/or distribute and collect physical education equipment.

     

    - Enters and maintains departmental records such as inventory control records, rosters, directories, and schedules.

     

    - May operate computers, computer software, and other electronic equipment in performing assigned tasks.

    CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

    The CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies (SLU)isthe 25th and newest unit of the City University of New York. The school is dedicated to public service and social justice and offers undergraduate and graduate certificate and degree programs in labor relations, public policy, public administration, health care administration, community studies, community leaders, labor studies and urban studies. These programs are designed to meet the needs of working adults as well as traditional-age college students who seek to learn more about the challenges confronting poor and working-class populations in the workplace and in the community. Its faculty includes distinguished scholars in the social sciences as well as expert practitioners in government, labor, and public service. Through SLU’s Murphy Institute, the School 1) collaborates with other units of CUNY to offer a range of college credit programs designed to provide workers with the academic and technical skills they need for professional advancement and 2) provides educational and research services to the labor movement and the broader community.

     

    The Worker Education and Workforce Development Unit at SLU’s Murphy Institute offers several programs to support union members and adult learners returning to school and earning a degree or credential to keep their jobs or advance their careers.

     

    The Institute’s Worker Education seeks a **College Assistant** to provide administrative support to the Worker Education Programs. The College Assistant will

     

    + Data entryand Assistwith routine database maintenance

    + Provide student technical support forworkshopand class registration (mostly evening hours).

    + Assist with communicating with prospective and current students(phone/text banking) and sending reminders.

    + Provide administrative support for open house sessions and departmental events, such as assisting with preparing event flyers and promotional material and supporting social media campaigns.

    + Assist with reviewing reports, intake forms, and checking students’ codes and missing information in different programs and services.

    + Assist with the collection of staff timesheets.

    + Performing general office duties upon request: meeting notes, maintaining student data, monitoring department vanity emails,etc

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    - Must demonstrate sufficient skills to perform the duties of the assigned tasks.

    OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

    + Experience in marketing and advertising for both in-person and online events is preferred.

    + Proficient in Microsoft 365 software,Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Forms, Teams

    + Experience in utilizing Zoom (meetings and webinarfeature) for large-scale events.

    + Strong customer service skills

    + Flexible schedule: some evenings /weekend hours are required

    COMPENSATION

    $19.12 per hour

    BENEFITS

    CUNY offers a comprehensive benefits package to employees and eligible dependents based on job title and classification. Employees are also offered pension and Tax-Deferred Savings Plans. Part-time employees must meet a weekly or semester work hour criteria to be eligible for health benefits. Health benefits are also extended to retirees who meet the eligibility criteria.
