             College Assistant - Academic Initiatives and Strategic Innovation GENERAL DUTIES - Under supervision, performs miscellaneous clerical, administrative, research or other work related to the operation of a College or other unit where such work is required on a part-time basis or for a period of limited duration. - There is one Assignment Level for this position. All personnel perform related work. This specification describes typical assignments; related duties may be assigned as needed. - Maximum tenure for any employee in this hourly position is 1040 hours per year. - Performs routine clerical work; may answer and attend to telephone calls; maintain records, operate office machines (such as copier), sort and distribute mail, issue keys and identity cards, act as messenger, and perform related tasks as required. - Types letters, memoranda, charts, and similar materials. - Acts as cashier. - Assists in statistical or research activities. May collect and compile data, code data for computer entry, perform data entry, and run computer reports. - Performs clerical library work, such as sorting and shelving books, performing data entry into library systems, or binding books and periodicals. - Assists in instructional programs, including tutoring and assisting students in areas such as reading and mathematics. May assist in speech and hearing therapy, provide musical accompaniment, and/or distribute and collect physical education equipment. - Enters and maintains departmental records such as inventory control records, rosters, directories, and schedules. - May operate computers, computer software, and other electronic equipment in performing assigned tasks. The Office of Academic Initiatives and Strategic Innovation is seeking a supportive, resourceful, and detail-oriented College Assistant to support our educational programs for older adults. This role combines office support with hands-on presentation support, helping participants navigate simple technology tasks for classes, meetings, and occasional events. The ideal candidate will have experience working with older adult learners, a collaborative spirit, and the ability to think on their feet when troubleshooting in real time. This role is for 1,040 hours a year, 20 hours per week. Duties include but are not limited to: • Provide assistance to members of LP2 (Lifelong Peer Learning Program) withgeneral program-related questions and needs. • Provide hands-on support to older adult learners during classroom presentations,including assistance with slides, Zoom, video, and other simple technology needs. • Anticipate and resolve minor technical issues quickly and calmly to ensure smoothprogram delivery. • Offer one-on-one guidance to participants with patience and clear communication. • Collaborate with instructors and staff to prepare user guides and ensure classroomsand presentation equipment (including projectors, microphones, laptops, and onlineplatforms) are ready for use. • Assist with meeting and class schedules, space reservations, audio/visual supportand facility's needs. • Perform data entry, analysis, and maintainfiles/records. • Assist with purchase requisitions per university procurement processes. • Greet staff and guests,field inquiries via email and phone while exhibiting a friendly and helpful demeanor. • Assist with light office duties such as printing, copying, organizing files, andmaintaining program supplies. • Perform other duties as assigned. This is a hybrid role, and the incumbent will work on site and remotely. All full-time and part-time CUNY staff are expected to work in-person at their campus office 80% of their work time. This hybrid work schedule is subject to change. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - Must demonstrate sufficient skills to perform the duties of the assigned tasks. OTHER QUALIFICATIONS A preferred candidate should have: • Experience working with older adults in an educational, cultural, or communitysetting. • Demonstrated ability to support learners with basic technology, includingPowerPoint, Zoom, and web-based tools. • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt in fast-paced, real-timesituations. • Excellent interpersonal skills; friendly, helpful, patient, empathetic, and a goodlistener. • Organized and reliable, with strong attention to detail. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, SharePoint, Constant Contact,Canva, or similar. • Flexibility to work part-time hours, including occasional evenings and weekendsdepending on program schedule. • Background in adult education, community programs, or customer service. • Familiarity with both PC and Mac operating systems. • Comfort with hybrid or virtual learning environments. COMPENSATION $25.51 per hour BENEFITS CUNY offers a comprehensive benefits package to employees and eligible dependents based on job title and classification. Employees are also offered pension and Tax-Deferred Savings Plans. Part-time employees must meet a weekly or semester work hour criteria to be eligible for health benefits.
