GENERAL DUTIES
Media Services Technicians under supervision or direction, perform technical work of varying degrees of difficulty in the set-up, operation, training, troubleshooting, general maintenance and repair of digital/analog, audio-visual, video production, DVD, computer system, digital photography, presentation, recording, projection, duplication, and related broadcast production equipment in a classroom, shop, studio or in the field. Media Services Technicians must have a general knowledge of Windows and Apple based computers along with pertinent software. They may transport equipment for on-site use or shop repair, as well as operate a motor vehicle for such purposes. All Media Services Technicians perform related work.
ASSIGNMENT LEVEL I- Under supervision, performs work of ordinary difficulty, as follows:
- Sets up, operates, does routine preventive maintenance and makes minor repairs on all types of projection equipment, portable public address systems, audio digital recorders, radios, cameras and related equipment.
- Operates and maintains video production equipment.
- Operates video and audio duplication equipment.
- Prepares equipment requisitions; maintains inventory and repair records.
- Transports equipment for on-site use or shop repair.
- Assists in the training of students and/or instructors in the operation and minor routine maintenance of audio-visual, video production and related electronic equipment.
- Makes minor repairs to video recording equipment, video receiver/monitors and related television production components.
- May supervise and/or train part-time or temporary employees.
Operates motor vehicle, as necessary.
ASSIGNMENT LEVEL II- In addition to Level II duties, incumbents will also perform those tasks performed by Level I Media Services Technicians. Under general supervision performs work of greater difficulty, as follows:
- Makes complete repairs on all types of projection equipment, portable public address systems, audio recorders, radios, and related equipment.
- Trains students, instructors and other personnel in the operations, general maintenance and minor repair of audio-visual and related electronic equipment.
- Evaluates the performance of new equipment and facilities; prepares reports on evaluation findings.
- Requisition supplies and equipment, solicits bids from outside parts vendors.
- Supervises and coordinates the activities of subordinate personnel.
ASSIGNMENT LEVEL III- In addition to Level III duties, incumbents will also perform those tasks performed by Level I & II Media Services Technicians. Under general supervision performs work of greater difficulty, as follows:
- Installs and performs initial system checkout on video production equipment.
- Interprets system schematic wiring diagrams.
- Assists campus departments with technical problems.
- Supervises all phases of equipment and supplies purchasing, from preparation of initial requisitions to vendor liaison for expeditions delivery and payment.
- May supervise or operate a single facility of a technical service (e.g., repairs shop, media duplication offices, field repair center), supervises the personnel in such facility.
- Participate in designing new facilities and specialized devices.

Information Technology (IT) is the division of the Graduate Center responsible for voice, video, and data systems and services. The mission of this unit is to promote, facilitate, and support the effective use of technology in the learning process, in instruction and research, and in processing and accessing institutionalinformation.
Reporting directly to the Media Services Manager, the Media Services Technician provides support for audio visual technologies and video conferencing systems in conferences, training, auditoria, and/or public spaces as well as support desktop video conferencing software. This position is based at the Advanced Science Research Center located at 85 St. Nicholas Terrace in Manhattan, and will also be assigned, when needed, to work at the Graduate Center located at 365 5 th Avenue. This position requires the incumbent to work in the office. This is a full-time role.
Under the direction of the Media Services Manager, the Media Services Technician provides technical services including the set-up, operation, maintenance and repair of audio- visual, video and related multimedia components, including desktop and laptop computers, in the field or studio. The incumbent will provide technical support in the classroom and with other academic program activities; on occasion, support for special events is required. The Media Services Technician is expected to deliver excellent customer service to end- users, interact and communicate effectively with coworkers and remain current in thefield.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
+ Setsupandoperatesalltypesofmultimediaequipment, componentsandsystems,includingvideo production and related equipment; sets up, operates and breaks down a range of multimedia equipment, frombasicto high-end audio, video,projection,videoconferencing, sound and lighting equipment, as well as related desktop or laptop computers.
+ Takesresponsibilityfordeliveryandpickingupofallmultimediaandcomputerequipmentina timely manner, making sure that all equipment is in working order when delivered.
+ Notesproblemsregardingcomputer,peripheral,multimediaorcommunicationsequipmentor regarding the equipment operating environment and informs the supervisor.
+ Operatesvideoandaudiotapeduplicationequipment;assistsintherecordingandduplicationof tapes for teaching, research, thesis preparation and transcription for publication, including checking for copyright infringement.
+ Undertakes preventive maintenance, cleans, trouble-shoots and makes minor adjustments and repairstoavarietyofmultimediaandend-usercomputerequipmentincludingsuchcomponentsas videotape recorders, video cameras, video receiver /monitors, projection equipment, portable public address systems, audio tape recorders, desktop and laptop computers and related equipment. Replaces defective components as necessary.
+ Familiarizesortrainsstudents,facultyandstaffontheproperoperationandmaintenanceof multimedia equipment; provides technical assistance to end- users.
+ AssistsMediaServicesandClientServicescolleagueswithpropersecurity,storage,and transportation of equipment.
+ Maintainssupplyinventoriesandstorage facilities,accountsforallinventoriesbeforeandafter each event.
+ Maintains inventory records, usage logs and control sheets. maintains Media Services requirementsandrelatedinformationonthemastercalendar;coordinatesthemastercalendar with supervisor and other staff.
+ Remainscomplaintwithallapplicablepoliciesandprocedures.
+ Deliversexcellentcustomerservicetoend-users.
+ InteractseffectivelywithcolleaguesacrossIT,aswellasstaffinsuchofficesasSpecialEvents,Room Reservations, Facilities, Building Design, Public Safety and other units at the GC and ASRC.
+ Participatesinprofessionaldevelopmentactivitiesandrelatedopportunitiestoremaincurrent in the field.
+ ProvidesMediaServicesupportattheGCandASRCbuildings.
+ Performs otherdutiesasassigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Level 1
1. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent **and** three (3) years of satisfactory full-time experience in the repair, maintenance and routine operation of various projectors (including slide, filmstrip, opaque, over-head and sound motion picture), and other equivalent electronic equipment (including portable public address systems, digital recorders, and digital cameras); **or**
2. A certificate or diploma in radio and television mechanics or related trades from an accredited vocational high school or technical school **and** two (2) years of satisfactory full-time experience as described in "1" above; **or**
3. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" and "2" above. Two (2) years of certified experience as a member of a high school audio-visual squad **or** one (1) year work-study experience in an approved Department of Education program which includes work with audio-visual or related electronic equipment may be substituted for six months of the experience described in "1" above.
Level 2
1. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent **and** four (4) years of satisfactory full-time experience in the repair, maintenance and routine operation of various projectors (including slide, filmstrip, opaque, over-head and sound motion picture), and other equivalent electronic equipment (including portable public address systems, digital recorders, and digital cameras); **or**

**Note** : A Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York, may be required for certain assignments. If you have moving violations, license suspension(s) or an accident record, you may be disqualified. If appointed to a position requiring a Motor Vehicle Driver License, this license must be maintained for the duration of your employment.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
A preferred candidate should have:
+ 1 to 2 years of experience in A/V and desktop support
+ Experience with video conferencing systems and streaming and streaming technology such as HyFlex, Polycom, BlueJeans, Vidyo, Zoom, MS Teams, etc.
+ Familiarity with smart classroom technology
+ Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends

COMPENSATION
New Hire* - $48,731
Incumbent Minimum - $ 55,066
*This amount reflects a 13% salary suppression in effect for the first 24 months of employment.
