Duties include: 1) representing the FYWP at university meetings; 2) updating syllabi, selecting textbooks for ENGL 1301, 1302, and 2311, and exploring ways to improve FYWP curriculum in consultation with faculty members, the department chair, and the college dean; 3) overseeing assessment of FYWP courses; 4) conducting observations and evaluations of faculty members teaching in the FYWP; and 5) applying for internal and external grants to improve and innovate the FYWP curriculum, materials, pedagogical techniques, and FYWP faculty members. Duties also include providing on-going professional development to faculty teaching in the program; helping to identify qualified adjuncts who can teach FYWP courses; and actively participating in department, college, and university initiatives. This position requires face-to-face interactions through a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.

Financial support for professional development opportunities, such as attending academic conferences, is also provided. Moving expenses are covered in whole or in part by the university.
