In cooperation with the nursing staff of SDS, this position is responsible for direct and in-direct patient care tasks for the department. This includes: escorting patients to their rooms and possible discharge to their vehicle, performing tasks such as taking vital signs, providing nourishment, observing and reporting cardiac rhythms to the nursing staff, assisting with admission and discharge from the units including Endo or the SDS department. Clerical tasks may include: entering orders to CPOE, transporting specimens, arranging follow up appointments, chart organization and take down, organizing workspace, answering phones, etc. Additional tasks include cleaning workspace, stretchers, miscellaneous decontamination tasks as requested and instructed, etc.
Job Requirements Knowledge of/Skill/Ability to: Visual acuity to observe cardiac and vital sign monitors values, patient physical signs, etc. Ability to read, speak, write and understand English. Use proper body mechanics to push stretchers, wheelchairs, and other equipment safely as well as assisting with lifting and moving patients. Dexterity required to operate monitoring and other patient equipment. Knowledge of medical terminology and possess verbal and clerical skills to function in department. Demonstrate ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously. Computer knowledge to appropriately and accurately document in EMR. Demonstrated ability to work independently and be self motivated.
License/Certification Currently licensed by the Oregon State Board of Nursing as a CNA. CNA2 certification is required, preferably to be obtained within 1 year of hire but no greater than 24 months. Caregiver will work with manager on an appropriate timeframe to achieve this based on class offerings and scheduling. BLS through American Heart Association required. Satisfactory completion of Basic arrhythmia class within six months of hire.
Education and/or Experience Acute care experience required. High School diploma or equivalency required. Computer experience preferred.
Physical Demands and Work Environment Conditions / ADA Compliance Works inside. Walking and standing most of the time while on duty. Occasional long shift necessary. Ability to assist with patient or supply lifting and transferring. Pushes and pulls stretchers, carts, wheelchairs, beds, crash carts, and equipment. Tolerates bending, sitting, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling. Visual acuity for monitor reading and patient observation, perception of words and numbers. Manual dexterity to use computer keyboard, use equipment, clean workspace, common office equipment. Subject to occasional physical and emotional stress within a fast paced environment. Hearing acuity to distinguish between alarms from monitors, words/instructions paged, heartbeats and breathing sounds.
