    The stated pay range is based on a national-average location. Actual salary is determined by factors including relevant work experience, skills and location. This position is bonus eligible.

     

    CNO Financial Group is hiring an Application Engineer to be responsible for designing, building, and optimizing application solutions by applying robust engineering principles across both in-house developed and third-party PaaS/SaaS applications. The role blends hands-on development with system optimization, troubleshooting, and technical leadership. The Application Engineer drives performance, reliability, and integration across applications while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver solutions aligned with business goals.

    As an** **Application Engineer,** **your responsibilities will include:

    + Design, implement, and maintain scalable, resilient software solutions through a mix of third-party PaaS/SaaS applications and in-house, custom developed solutions.

    + Diagnose and resolve issues related to application functionality, integration, reliability, and efficiency through systematic analysis.

    + Author clean, maintainable, and well-documented code following industry best practices and internal standards. Oversee code quality of developers and engineers for the assigned scope of applications.

    + Assess and implement optimizations for applications that improve performance, stability, and scalability to support business growth.

    + Research and integrate emerging technologies, frameworks, and methodologies to enhance system capabilities.

    + Produce technical specifications, diagrams, and process documentation for knowledge sharing.

    + Partner with product managers, architects, application vendors, developers, QA engineers, and infrastructure teams to deliver robust solutions aligned with business objectives.

    The Application Engineer position** **is well-suited for you if you:

    + Have a strong foundation in software engineering, distributed systems, architecture, data modeling, and object-oriented design.

    + Can evaluate information, analyze problems, and develop innovative solutions, while understanding trade-offs in system design decisions.

    + Bring experience with APIs (REST/SOAP), integration platforms, ETL tools, and data pipelines, as well as expertise in databases and data modeling.

    + Possess hands-on experience with programming languages such as Java, C#, Python, or similar, and are familiar with modern frameworks.

    + Demonstrate a strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), and cloud platforms (Azure/AWS/GCP).

    + Communicate technical concepts effectively, both verbally and in writing, to peers and stakeholders.

    + Thrive in a team environment, fostering positive and productive relationships.

    What you’ll need:

    + Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering or related field (or equivalent practical experience).

    + 3 years of experience in application development, system integration, or platform engineering; including familiarity with performance tuning, security best practices, and software lifecycle management.

    What will set you apart:

    + Master's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering or related field (or equivalent practical experience).

    + 5+ years of experience in application development, system integration, or platform engineering; including familiarity with performance tuning, security best practices, and software lifecycle management.

    + Candidate location in Central or Eastern US time zone is preferred OR willingness to work Central or Eastern time zone business hours

    Associates who live outside of a 60-mile radius of a corporate office (Birmingham, Carmel, Chicago, Orlando and Milwaukee) may perform this role full-time work from home (WFH) from any US based location, as long as you are willing to work central or eastern time zone hours.

     

    All associates may be asked to travel to varying corporate offices periodically.
