    Job Description

    The Program Specialist I will maintain and track qualifications, training records and fitness for Texas A&M Forest Service (TAMFS) employees as wall as TIFMAS members and other cooperators in accordance with TAMFS, NWCG and FEMA standards. Be knowledgeable of all aspects of TAMFS training programs. The Program Specialist will also participate in emergency response. This position will be located in either College Station or Lufkin.

    Responsibilities:

    -Enter and modify data for tracking qualifications, training, experience, position task books and fitness for agency employees and cooperators, including TIFMAS, in accordance with TAMFS, NWCG and FEMA standards.

     

    -Assist with the transition of TIFMAS and other cooperator personnel into the agency IQS.

     

    -Participate in wildland and all-hazard incident response with may require: working long hours with minimal rest in primitive conditions, exposure to harsh environmental conditions such as wind, sunlight, rain and temperature extremes. Will require walking long distances, standing for extended periods, twisting, bending, reaching, kneeling, and lifting and carrying heavy objects, driving a motor vehicle for long distances, operating heavy equipment with related exposure to equipment vibrations and noise, operating computers with monitors for extended periods of time. Response may result in exposure to emotionally stressful situations for extended periods of time.

     

    -Support the Facilitated Learning Analysis Program, Inter-agency Wildfire Academies and delivery of various internal and external training and development programs.

     

    -Serve as a professional representative of the agency. Assist in answering customer inquiries and resolving customer complaints.

     

    -Manage and account for agency resources, credit cards and other fiscal matters in accordance with all applicable laws, policies, rules, procedures and guidelines.

     

    -Other duties as assigned.

    Education and Experience:

    Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources, Emergency Management, Education or related field.

     

    Preferred Education: Master’s degree in Natural Resources, Emergency Management, Education or related field.

     

    Required Experience: None

     

    Preferred Experience: Two (2) or more years of relevant experience with wildland fire response or natural resource management.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    Required Knowledge: Basic knowledge of Microsoft 365 products

     

    Preferred Knowledge: Familiarity with educational systems, course development and revision, training management principles, instructional processes and methods of adult education. Familiarity with wildland fire management and operations in NWCG.

     

    Required Skills: Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills. Sound judgement, organized and detail-oriented.

     

    Required Abilities: Must meet and maintain appropriate qualifications and fitness standards for statewide wildland and all-hazard incident response. Multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

    Licenses, Certifications and Registrations:

    Required: Valid Texas Driver’s license

     

    Preferred: Formal IQS training. NWCG Firefighter Type 2 (FFT-2)
