    General Job Description: An Emergency & Critical Care (ECC) Supervisor is one that is a highly educated and skilled veterinary technician that emulates the qualities of a leader. The Supervisor should be proficient and project confidence with both technical skills and interpersonal communication. Despite anxiety, stress, and conflicts within the workplace, the supervisor should remain levelheaded and approach challenging situations in a proactive, problem-solving manner. They should not only be able to recognize problems with the work environment but also provide creative solutions. The ECC supervisor must have excellent multi-tasking ability and be able to juggle technical and managerial duties. The ECC supervisor must have excellent communication skills and follow through on all assigned tasks and requests in a timely manner (and meet all deadlines provided).

    Primary Responsibilities:

    + Act as a direct representative of the SAVES emergency and Critical Care technical staff. Ensure that the SAVES emergency and Critical Care staff create a professional work environment that strives to provide the highest quality of care to our patients. Maintain a professional demeanor and ensure that the ECC staff have a safe, confidential, and reliable person that can mediate and resolve situations of conflict.

    + Direct Supervision of emergency and critical care staff. Ensure that all ECC staff are fulfilling their duties in the designated roles throughout the workday. Ensure that all ECC staff portray exceptional inter/intradepartmental and client communication.

    + Provide technical support as needed and spend a moderate amount of time on primary emergency and critical care case management. Interview, hire, train, review and terminate ECC technicians, and veterinary assistants for the emergency and critical care service.

    + Assist the creation, modification, and maintenance of effective training programs for technical staff. Implement new protocols/policies after collaboration with other supervisors/managers. Help with creation of new employee training binders and accounts with online CE opportunities. Conduct monthly check-ins with ECC staff to: Review technician training binders for progress and completion on technical duties. Review and assign new goals monthly to each employee. Monitor professional development and skill level of all ECC staff via initial 2 week, 4 week (60 days) and annual performance reviews.

    + Develop ECC staff work schedules to meet daily, weekly, emergency, and holiday support requirements for the hospital. Collaborate with specialty supervisor to provide adequate coverage to the hospital. Coordinate coverage for people calling in sick or late to work. Help maintain logs of ECC staff schedules, PTO, and vacation days. Delegate daily responsibilities for ECC staff including tasks lists during slow days. Review end of shift checklists daily to ensure equal share of cleaning duties amongst staff.

    + Work directly with Hospital Director, Medical Director, Clinical Operations Manager, and other SAVES supervisors regarding alterations to SOPs during biweekly supervisor meetings. Attend weekly meetings with manager and bi-monthly meetings with manager and clinical technician supervisors. Coordinate and help direct monthly emergency and critical care technician and veterinary assistant meetings with Manager. Facilitate frequent meetings with charge nurses to trouble shoot challenges and frustrations and provide feedback on leadership skills. Engage doctors frequently to obtain real-time feedback on departmental functionality and flow and potential concerns regarding emergency and critical care patient care personnel.

    Requirements:

    + RVT or other licensing credentials. At least 2 years of experience in a lead or supervisory role.

    + Knowledge of Microsoft Office Products and Internet Explorer. Knowledge of Smartflow and ezyVet preferred.

    + Handles stress well and keeps a positive attitude with clients and fellow employees. Excels at conflict resolution and superb at problem solving. Strong ability to multitask and anticipate needs. Excellent communication with staff, and between staff, and upper management.

    + Fluent English skills (speaking & reading) are required for the role; fluency in multiple languages a plus.
