Job Title: Optomechanical Engineer
Job Description
This role focuses on designing and integrating ruggedized camera systems for autonomous surface vessels. The engineer will collaborate closely with software and perception teams to define requirements and optimize camera solutions.
Responsibilities
+ Design and integrate camera systems for autonomous vessels.
+ Collaborate with software and perception teams to define and refine requirements.
+ Perform engineering simulations and CAD work.
+ Support the full product lifecycle including testing and manufacturing.
Essential Skills
+ 5–10 years of experience in camera, optomechanical, and infrared technologies.
+ Expertise in ruggedized camera system design, preferably military-grade.
+ Proficiency in engineering simulations such as modal and stress analysis.
+ Strong understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
+ Ability to create CAD models and drawings.
+ Strong mechanical and electrical intuition.
+ Bachelor's degree in engineering in any discipline.
+ Ability to write and interpret requirements in ambiguous environments.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience with PTZ (Pan-Tilt-Zoom) camera systems.
+ Experience in optics lab setup and testing.
+ Rapid prototyping experience.
+ Familiarity with off-the-shelf camera systems.
Work Environment
The position is on-site, full-time in Austin, TX, with relocation support available. The work environment includes a small, agile team with high collaboration across software, mechanical, and electrical teams. The company features a vertically integrated prototyping and machine shop and maintains a fast-paced, high-impact culture with strong expectations for ownership and initiative.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Austin, Texas.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $70.00 - $100.00/hr.
