    Description

    Idaho State Police Maintenance Craftsman (District 1, Coeur d'Alene)

     

    Idaho State Police is looking for a part-time Maintenance Craftsman in District 1 (Coeur d’Alene) to perform skilled trade duties in the operation, maintenance, and repair of buildings and related facilities and systems; perform related work.

    EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

    Facility maintenance

    Electrical

    o Maintains and repairs panels, circuits, wiring, and related systems

    o Replaces switches, receptacles, ballast's, fuse boxes, heat systems, motors, fans and lights

    o Repairs electric motors and extension cords

    o Installs communication cable and telephone lines

    o Assists journeyman electricians in new installations

    Plumbing

    o Maintains and repairs plumbing fixtures, lavatories, faucets, sinks, tubs, water heaters and water service and drain lines

    o Installs domestic, irrigation, and sprinkler systems

    o Cleans/unclogs pipes, tanks, floor drains and sewers Cuts and threads or sweats pipe

    o Repairs steam traps and pipes on heat systems

    o Conducts preventive maintenance of plumbing and steam systems

    o Assists journeyman plumbers in the installation and remodeling of plumbing systems

     

    Carpentry

     

    o Installs ceramic floor and wall tile, linoleum, plastic laminate and similar products Repairs built-up, shake, shingle, and other roofs

    o Patches holes in walls using sheetrock, plywood, tile, and plaster

    o Builds walls, partitions, benches, decks, and tables

    o Sketches from oral instructions and works from drawings to design and build specialty items

    o Builds and sets forms and pours and finishes concrete Builds fences and gates

    HVAC

    o Maintains and repairs heating, ventilating, and air conditioning equipment such as air compressors, dryers, strainers, pneumatic and electronic controls and piping systems

    o Ensures water and steam coils, motors, belts, pulleys, condenser pans, duct work, dampers, and related systems are working properly

    o Repairs fire alarm and pumping system

    •Miscellaneous

    o Conducts preventive maintenance on building devices and systems Operates equipment used in building maintenance and repair

    o Performs machinist work involving design and fabrication of specialized parts and equipment

    o Welds and repairs and fabricates brackets, fixtures, and similar items

    o Rebuilds motors and performs mechanical and preventive maintenance work on equipment

    o Lays brick, stone, and block

    o Removes debris from area

    o Repairs appliances

    o Responds to emergency call-backs

    o Functions as lead worker over other maintenance staff and assists with general related trade duties

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    o Good knowledge of: Carpentry, plumbing, electrical and general building maintenance

    o Some knowledge of: HVAC and mechanical systems maintenance Building codes

    Experience:

    o Performing skilled carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and building maintenance repair

    o Using and maintaining tools and equipment normally associated with carpentry, mechanics, plumbing, and electrical work

    o Reading blueprints and schematics

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

    Incumbents may work in all weather conditions and move in and around confined spaces. These positions are maintenance oriented. When working under the supervision of a licensed journeyman in a respective trade area incumbents can be an apprentice in that specialty. These positions involve lifting and carrying items weighing approximately 90 pounds, bending, stooping, shoveling, and climbing ladders.
