Job Title: Field Technician II
Job Description
As a Field Technician II, you will operate, monitor, and maintain landfill gas migration control and recovery systems, as well as other environmental pollution control systems such as Vapor Extraction Systems (VES) and Ground Water Pump and Treat (GWP&T). Under general supervision, you will provide long-term post-closure care at closed landfill sites, ensuring all activities are conducted in a professional, productive, and safe manner. This role requires reporting to a SR-level supervisor, including Project Superintendents or Project Managers.
Responsibilities
+ Conduct field sampling at various test locations including wells, probes, headers, blowers, flares, and pumps.
+ Record, analyze, and report data while adjusting gas flow rates based on consultation with the supervisor.
+ Operate and maintain analytical equipment, ensuring proper calibration.
+ Maintain daily field logs detailing data collected, field observations, actions taken, and future recommendations.
+ Consult with supervisors and clients regarding field conditions and test results.
+ Implement necessary repairs and maintenance to keep systems operational and compliant.
+ Supervise and interact with vendors and subcontractors for system operations, monitoring, and maintenance.
+ Conduct on-site Health and Safety meetings and ensure adherence to safety standards.
+ Perform surface emission monitoring using air-monitoring instruments.
+ Utilize tools such as ladders, saws, and grinders for gas well piping repairs.
+ Operate heavy machinery like backhoes and forklifts for non-routine repairs.
+ Lift and lower manhole covers and pumps for well measurements and repairs.
+ Participate in health and safety meetings and training sessions.
+ Assist various staff members including Laborers, Field Technicians, and Equipment Operators.
Essential Skills
+ 1+ year of exposure to landfill or solid waste construction OR 3+ years of construction inspection experience.
+ Understanding of CQA protocols for landfill and solid waste projects.
+ Ability to perform inspections and document compliance with engineering specifications.
+ Familiarity with long-duration CQA cycles (9-12 months/year).
+ Adaptability to long-term assignments in inspection and civil construction.
+ Proficiency in using basic hand tools and lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds.
+ Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
+ Ability to work long hours during the summer (10-11 hour days, M-F) and travel overnight as needed.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Associate’s degree preferred.
+ Experience with civil construction is preferred.
+ Prior Quality Control or Inspection experience on construction projects is advantageous.
+ Experience in geosynthetics installation, particularly with High Density Polyethylene Geomembrane, is beneficial.
+ Surveying and soils testing experience, including Nuclear Density Testing and geotechnical sample collection, is a plus.
+ Proficiency in using Excel and Word.
+ Willingness to travel within Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, and Illinois, with potential for further travel.
Work Environment
You will work 100% of your time in the field at solid waste landfill sites (Effingham, IL). Projects typically last 12 months, with work hours being 10-11 hour days from Monday to Friday during the summer. Weekend work is preferred if possible. Expect to work on one project and then move to the next, with the first project located in Effingham, IL. You will collaborate with Project Engineers and construction contractors while on-site, with most weekends spent at home.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Effingham, IL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $30.00/hr.
