Summary
The Textiles and Clothing Museum (TCM) is a unique and irreplaceable record of material culture and history. The collection comprises over 9,000 objects including flat textiles, clothing, accessories, and other fashion-related items collected from across time periods of regional as well as global significance. The TCM includes the Mary Alice Gallery, the Donna R. Danielson Conservation Laboratory, and the Edward and Bertha Waldee Storage Facility. All facilities are housed across Morrill Hall and Lebaron Hall. The TCM is a teaching collection which means that its principal focus is on supporting undergraduate and graduate students at Iowa State University in their education.
The Textiles and Clothing Museum (TCM) is seeking an experienced Curator II to provide leadership in project management, strategic planning and design, collections development and management, research, public programming, education, and exhibit duties.
Example of Duties• Collects and maintains artifacts and artworks including acquisition, documentation, storage, care, and preventative conservation.• Designs and prepares exhibits and leads tours.• Designs and prepares publications, brochures and other educational materials for diverse audiences.• Conducts research related to collections and share results.• Advises on preparation, classification, and cataloging of collections.• Develops and manages grants and other funding proposals to support programs.Level Guidelines• Intermediate-level position with solid professional and/or technical skills working under general supervision to achieve goals• Applies broad, working knowledge of the principles of the field to moderately complex, difficult, and varied problems and issues• Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action and resolve problems• Responds to a broad range of inquiries and requests• May provide training and/or direction to lower-level staff• May lead projects of moderate scope and complexity• Provides guidance to students
This is a part-time position, 20 hours per week. Workdays and hours are flexible within a Monday–Friday, 8 am–5 pm work week.
This is an initial three-year term position, with expectation for renewal based on availability of funding.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship. Immigration sponsorship is not available for this position.
