Position Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Security Technology and Access Control, the Onity Lock Technician will perform specialized maintenance and repair of legacy Onity electronic locks and keycard encoder systems used across campus. This position provides expert-level troubleshooting, repair, and configuration services for equipment that is no longer supported by the manufacturer.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

+ Diagnose, repair, and configure Onity locks, door controllers, and keycard encoders to restore operational reliability.

+ Perform component-level repairs involving both mechanical and electronic systems.

+ Identify and source compatible replacement parts for discontinued or legacy Onity models, adapting available components as necessary.

+ Conduct preventive maintenance and functional testing to ensure consistent keycard operation and security integrity.

+ Document all service activities, including diagnostic findings, parts used, and maintenance actions performed.

+ Collaborate with Facilities Management, Campus Safety, and IT staff to coordinate repair schedules and minimize impact to building access.

+ Provide technical guidance and training to in-house staff on the care and maintenance of existing Onity systems.

+ Recommend repair, replacement, or upgrade options based on condition and supportability of existing lock hardware.

+ Create, modify, and remove users, templates, and schedules in the Onity software.

+ When needed, update access, templates, and schedules at the door and/or controller locations in the field.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

+ Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience repairing, maintaining, or installing Onity lock systems and encoders, including legacy or discontinued models.

+ Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot both electronic and mechanical components at the board and device level.

+ Proficiency with diagnostic and repair tools (e.g., multimeters, soldering equipment, firmware updates).

+ Proven ability to locate and utilize replacement parts from secondary markets or adapt compatible components.

+ Strong documentation and communication skills, with the ability to maintain accurate repair records and communicate findings to management.

+ Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and deliver consistent, high-quality technical work.
