    The University of Miami UHealth Department of UMHC - SCCC - Nutrition Services has an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Program Manager for Exercise Oncology and Yoga Therapy (H). The incumbent aids in the support of various clinical programs. An employee in this position supports their leader with managing assigned program components, preparing clinical documentation, and preparing reports. The incumbent exercises considerable independent judgment and discretion in managing and carrying out daily activities while adhering to policies and procedures.

     

    •DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC JOB SUMMARY

     

    The Clinical Program Manager for Exercise Oncology and Yoga Therapy (H) functions as an integral member of the oncology interdisciplinary team by leading and overseeing evidence-based exercise and yoga interventions that align with the medical goals of oncology patients across the continuum of care. The Manager provides leadership, supervision, and strategic direction for the exercise oncology and yoga therapy teams, ensuring services are high-quality, cost-effective, and patient-centered. This role works closely with the Director of Nutrition and Wellness and with disciplines under Cancer Survivorship and Supportive Care—including Nutrition, Massage Therapy, Art Therapy, and others—to deliver coordinated supportive care. The position is responsible for designing, implementing, and evaluating individualized and group exercise/yoga programs for oncology patients, ensuring compliance with ACSM/ACS guidelines and safety protocols for complex clinical populations. Responsibilities include program development, staff supervision, quality improvement, tracking outcomes, and operational oversight. The Manager also serves as a subject matter expert and institutional resource on exercise oncology and yoga therapy, promoting best practices through program innovation, participation in interdisciplinary initiatives, and sharing knowledge via education, outreach, and professional development.

    CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

    + Directs and coordinates assignments for program operations.

    + Evaluates office production, revises procedures, and devises new forms to improve efficiency and workflow.

    + Manages clinical operation and quality assurance procedures.

    + Implements projects and procedures to ensure program performance is exceeding expectations.

    + Performs assessment of needs within the organization and develops clinical programs to meet those needs.

    + Maintains required records and reports statistics for administrative, quality assurance, and safety and control purposes.

    + Coordinates the development, implementation, and evaluation of departmental or program area policies and procedures designed to improve operational efficiency.

    + May oversee various personnel actions, including but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, disciplinary actions, termination, and other related activities.

    + Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures. Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

     

    Department Specific Functions

    Interdisciplinary Collaboration

    + Partners with physicians, APPs, and the care team to integrate exercise oncology and yoga therapy into patient care pathways across prehabilitation, treatment, and survivorship.

    + Develops referral and triage protocols to ensure timely patient access and appropriate assignment of services.

    Clinical Oversight

    + Performs exercise evaluations and develops individualized prescriptions/programs in alignment with ACSM/ACS oncology guidelines.

    + Ensures staff competency in patient education, safe technique, contraindications, and modifications related to treatment side effects.

    Staff Supervision & Development

    + Directly supervises exercise physiologists and yoga therapists, including hiring, onboarding, scheduling, training, and evaluations.

    + Supports staff development through mentorship, continuing education, and competency validation.

    Program Administration & Policy

    + Establishes, updates, and enforces program guidelines, policies, and procedures for exercise oncology and yoga therapy.

    + Manages operational workflows and resource allocation to maintain efficiency and patient-centered care.

    Quality Improvement & Outcomes Tracking

    + Collects, analyzes, and reports outcome and productivity data.

    + Leads quality improvement initiatives to elevate care standards and align with institutional priorities.

    Safety & Risk Management

    + Develops and enforces safety protocols for both individual and group sessions tailored to oncology patients.

    + Oversees patient screening, monitoring, and modifications for treatment-related risks (cardiotoxicity, neuropathy, lymphedema, bone metastases, immune suppression, among others).

    Strategic Planning & Innovation

    + Provides program insights to leadership for departmental planning and expansion.

    + Identifies opportunities for innovation, including survivorship initiatives, group models, prehabilitation, and disease-group-specific offerings.

    Patient Engagement & Education

    + Oversees the creation of evidence-based educational materials for patients and caregivers on the role of exercise and yoga in cancer care.

    + Promotes workshops, group programs, and outreach to enhance visibility, access, and engagement.

    CORE QUALIFICATIONS

    Education:

    Bachelor’s degree in relevant field

     

    MS or PhD in Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, or related field (preferred).

    Certification and Licensing:

    ACSM Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist.

     

    ACSM/ACS Certified Cancer Exercise Trainer (preferred).

    Experience:

    Minimum 3 years of relevant experience (required)

     

    5+ years of relevant experience working with clinical populations and 2+ years working with the oncology population (preferred).

    + Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.

    + Ability to exercise sound and independent judgement.

    + Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement, and the ability to work unsupervised or with minimal supervision.
