The University of Colorado School of Medicine's Department of Emergency Medicine has an exciting opening for a full-time Emergency Medicine Research Scientist or Senior Research Scientist to serve as an investigator within a multi-disciplinary research program.The Department of Emergency Medicine conducts research in areas such as trauma, injury prevention, opioid misuse, critical care, mental health, pharmacogenomics, toxicology, global health, and healthcare policy. The successful applicant will have a passion for research, enjoy and excel in the sharing of knowledge and life-long learning, and have a desire to work in a collaborative and driven pool of talented co-workers.The Department of Emergency Medicine is excited to recruit a doctoral-level, quantitatively-oriented, highly-motivated researcher to contribute to clinical and epidemiologic research focused on injury prevention and emergency care research. Ideal candidates will have a strong understanding of physiology and clinical study design. This position will play a key role, as a research investigator, within the Goldberg lab research team as well as our growing portfolio of learning health system related research. The researcher in this position will be appointed to, and build a career in, the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine at the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado.THE RESEARCH LAB AND FIELDThe Goldberg lab conducts innovative, collaborative, federally-funded research, predominantly in emergency care and community settings. A variety of rigorous observational and interventional methodologies are used to fill contemporary clinical knowledge gaps. The Goldberg lab seeks to generate high quality evidence to enhance screening for fall risk, fall risk awareness, and falls prevention, with a special focus on improving patient outcomes in the emergency department and in the community. The Goldberg lab has a track record of NIH and Health & Human Services funding, including dozens of published peer-reviewed manuscripts and scientific presentations. Our research also deliberately seeks to fill clinical and scientific gaps in emergency care research and public health.NATURE OF WORK:This full-time (1.0 FTE) position will serve as an investigator at the rank of Research Scientist or Senior Research Scientist and will collaborate with study colleagues at all levels of the organization. The position is non-clinical and suitable for any doctoral level applicant with relevant training and expertise. This position will work both independently and in close collaboration with the Principal Investigator, Dr. Elizabeth Goldberg, MD, ScM, as well as collaborators and research staff in the Department of Emergency Medicine.As a co-investigator the main duties and responsibilities for this position will include, but are not limited to the following:Develop and maintain content expertise:
+ Understand the state of science and scientific gaps in emergency careConceive, design, implement, and complete research projects:
+ Formulate project-specific research questions alongside the PIs in alignment with lab focus areas and partner needs
+ Alongside the PIs, select appropriate study methodologies, design, and plan research studies with the research team
+ Seek and build relationships with relevant external experts, if and when needed e.g., biostatisticians, technical consultants, content experts
+ Supervise and lead the management of data and the analytics team to analyze data to answer questions
+ Lead troubleshooting and resolution of operational, administrative, regulatory, and/or scientific issues if and as they may occurPerform scientific and technical writing, and deliver presentations:
+ Co-lead the drafting and submission of research grants to federal and non-federal sponsors
+ Co-lead the writing and submission of regulatory and human subjects' documents e.g., data share agreements, ethics documents, study protocols, etc.
+ Co-lead writing of scientific abstracts, Technical and scientific reports, documents or presentations for stakeholder meetings, peer reviewed manuscripts.
+ Deliver or co-deliver presentations to diverse audiences
+ Updating relevant sections of existing research documents (e.g. protocols)
+ Work closely alongside the principal and co-investigators to accomplish the lab's program of work and provide leadership:o Help shape the vision and future program of work of the Goldberg labo Serve as a mentor and teacher to learners and junior team members, including:
+ Research services professionals
+ Fellows (e.g., research, global health)
+ Resident physicians
+ Masters students
+ Post-doctoral personnelTravel to study sites when needed to conduct assessments and build relationships:
+ Local and regional travel is required to meet or present to key partners.
+ Participate as a member of the Department of Emergency Medicine's research faculty
+ Other research-relevant duties as assigned to promote the mission and vision of the Department of Emergency Medicine
- this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire. This is an open rank position and could be categorized as Research Scientist or Senior Research Scientist based on experience and qualifications as indicated below:
+ 3 years' experience with human subjects research in an acute care related field
+ Basic understanding of human physiology
+ Peer-reviewed scientific publications in health journals (at least one first or co-author paper)
+ Experience preparing and submitting grants
+ Team science experience (i.e., worked in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary research team) **Senior Research Scientist:**

+ 5 years' experience with human subjects research in an acute care related field
+ Basic understanding of human physiology
+ Peer-reviewed scientific publications in health journals (at least one first or co-author paper)

+ Team science experience (i.e., worked in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary research team) **Preferred Qualifications:**
+ Research in a clinical setting (e.g., emergency room, ICU, rehabilitation clinic, physiology clinic, etc.)
+ Experience in emergency medicine, critical care, injury, and/or trauma
+ Demonstrated ability to lead a research team and execute projects
+ Post-doctoral fellowship training, especially with external grant-writing experience
+ Interest in health services, resource-poor settings, high-risk populations, disadvantaged populations, and geriatric populations
+ Statistics training and experience at intermediate level (e.g., can develop and run own multivariable regression models, time-series analyses, and survival plots, etc.)
+ Experience with design or analysis in clinical trials
+ Experience conducting epidemiology or research with large or complex datasets
+ Presentation at national or international scientific meetings (oral preferred over posters) **Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:**

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as Research Scientist: $90,000 to $100,000 Senior Research Scientist: $100,000 to $110,000 The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
