Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a **Communications Intern** located at the **Columbus General Office** in **Columbus** , **Nebraska** . Position closes November 4, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. Central Time.
This is a temporary position available from approximately December 1, 2025 through November 30, 2026 (based on student availability). The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week, with the expectation of working from the Columbus office a minimum of 2-3 days per week when school is not in session (Summer 2026). Remote work of approximately 15-20 hours per week during the school year will be considered and approved on a case-by-case basis.
Position Summary
The incumbent will assist in planning, developing, and implementing communication for internal and external audiences; create written and graphic content, and coordinate photos, graphics and video to be used in the layout and design of print and digital publications. The incumbent will also assist with planning and coordinating special events and will design and implement attractive assets that communicate with purpose for our customers. This will include communication and coordination with internal subject matter experts as well as external customers.
Education, Training and Experience
The intern must be enrolled in an accredited two-year or four-year college/university carrying a minimum of 12 semester units/credits or 8 quarter units with freshman, sophomore, junior or senior standing with a desire to pursue a career in Mass Communications, Web Design, Communications, Advertising, Sales, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Computer Science, Information Technology, Internet Marketing, Data Analytics, Data Science or related fields and must maintain enrollment. Junior or senior status is preferred. Students enrolled in Associate Programs but planning on pursuing a bachelor's degree will be considered if proof of a 4-year plan can be demonstrated.
The internship/training must be in the student's field of study. College credit may apply to some internships.
The intern should have strong brand management, media, data and analytic skills, composition skills, customer service, and familiarity with layout, design, and photo/video systems. Social media knowledge and content management systems are desired. Utility knowledge is a plus.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Strong organizational skills and multi-tasking ability.

Ability and/or willingness to work with various software to create graphics using graphic design software, such as Adobe editing products (Illustrator, InDesign, or Photoshop)
Familiarity with sound and audio equipment and video editing software.
Assist with various graphic design projects, including layout and design for various public relations requests.
Assist with multi-media projects such as video creation and other requests received by Corporate Communications. Assist in planning and coordination of summer outreach events such as the Nebraska State Fair, community parades, career fairs, and the Well Fargo Nebraska Open.
Manage, organize, and lead content within MediaBank, NPPD’s digital asset and content management solution.

**Salary Information** _-_ $19.00 per hour
**Travel Required:** Up to 25% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska) _Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview._

Salary
Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth. In addition to the base salary listed in posting, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range.
Retirement Savings
NPPD employees may participate in two retirement plan options – a 401(k) plan and a 457(b) plan. Both plans allow for pre-tax or Roth contributions. After the first six months of employment, the 401(k) plan includes a generous matching contribution from NPPD. The five-year vesting period begins on an employee’s hire date. Our retired employees are eligible for retiree healthcare benefits as well as a life benefit paid out to designated beneficiaries upon their passing.
