    About the role:

    Join Takeda as the Medical Affairs Senior Director, Oncology – Colorectal Cancer. You will champion new and novel approaches to drug development Life Cycle Management (LCM) as well as partner with the US Oncology Business Unit (USOBU) and Oncology Therapeutic Area Unit (OTAU) as a stakeholder in the evolution of the emerging pipeline portfolio. Serve as a scientific/medical expert in oncology products and on Takeda therapeutics positioned in the disease states. Maintain and continue to build the highest level of scientific/medical acumen and serve as a leader and key resource for Takeda medical teams, cross functional partners and external stakeholders. Survey and translate scientific findings and market events to ensure awareness and alignment among internal partners on issues of potential impact to Takeda. You will report to the Head of US OBU Medical Affairs and the role is based in Cambridge, MA.

    How you will contribute:

    + Provide scientific leadership/guidance across USMAO activities for on Brand and advanced stage and/or pipeline molecules including: evidence data generation; data analysis and interpretation; publications; medical communication; medical training; medical information; and support market access & reimbursement needs for data generation, analysis and publications.

    + Work in a multifunctional matrix organization with other USMAO functions, Regional and Global Medical Affairs functions, OTAU and other R&D functions, Oncology Business Unit (OBU) leaders, Takeda’s Patient Advocacy team and external collaborations and alliances.

    + Lead the development and implementation of Medical Strategy for US Medical Affairs Oncology: Coordinate across all Medical Affairs functions, R&D, and Commercial functions to develop and maintain the strategic plan; compliant execution of USMAO tactics; and excellence in standards and practices. Prepare, utilize and monitor the annual operating budget.

    + Advance external collaborations with healthcare practitioners, research groups, payers and patient advocacy groups and assure strong collaboration across Takeda’s organization

    + Champion new and novel approaches to drug development Life Cycle Management (LCM). Partner with US Oncology Business Unit (USOBU) and Oncology Therapeutic Area Unit (OTAU) as a stakeholder in the evolution of the emerging pipeline portfolio.

    + Serve as a scientific/medical expert in oncology products and on Takeda therapeutics positioned in the disease states.

    + Act as a scientific lead for assimilation, dissemination and archiving of all content developed for various disease states.

    + Provide leadership and scientific insight for the development of overall medical affairs strategies and for research, publications and CME strategies.

    + Participate in and/or represent Medical Affairs and provide scientific and/or strategic insights on multiple therapeutic area/product teams as needed.

    + Oversee medical & scientific training to US Medical Affairs and other functions across Takeda. Additionally, oversee development and communication of relevant medical training to appropriate partners in a timely fashion by field medical team

    Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

    Essential:

    + Medical Degree and 3+ years clinical or other MD related healthcare experience or PhD/PharmD and 10+ years scientific, pharmacology or related experience following award of degree, including 6 years bio-pharmaceutical industry experience (i.e. R&D, medical affairs and/or commercial functions)

    + Superior communication skills, both oral and written, and able to engender trust and respect of peers, subordinates and superiors.

    + Firm understanding of the key phases, processes, and techniques that are involved in both the pre-clinical and clinical aspects of drug development.

    + Demonstrated understanding of relevant connections and integration points between Medical Affairs and stakeholders across the Development and Commercial functions.

    + Demonstrated understanding of legal and regulatory environment of pharmaceutical industry

    + Ability to work as a team player

    Desired:

    + Oncology experience in the GI/Colorectal Cancer space

    + Clinical, research, or teaching experience

    + Advanced PC skills (e.g. MS Project, Word, Excel, Power Point, Visio, SharePoint, Customer interface systems as required)

    + Knowledge of and experience with Medical Affairs processes and tools

    + MBA or relevant business degree

    + Strong scientific credentials are required to communicate with key Thought Leaders, Medical Affairs, Research and Development, as well as other key internal and external stakeholders.

    + Proven track record of matrix, teamwork, leading cross-functional teams, timely decision making and results orientation in meeting objectives.

    + Demonstrated ability to articulate and negotiate projects and priorities across functions and/or organizations.

    Complexity and Problem Solving

    + Oversee medical & scientific training to US Medical Affairs and other functions across Takeda. Additionally, oversee development and communication of relevant medical training to appropriate partners in a timely fashion by field medical team

    + Develop, align, prioritize and communicate near-term and long-term US Medical strategies and plans for Takeda molecules in oncology. Anticipate and assess risks to achieving business goals and develop mitigation strategies.

    + Develop and maintain excellence in Medical Affairs standards and practices. Ensure compliant execution of relevant tactics.

    + Regularly bring scientific and market knowledge from MA (e.g., KOL feedback, scientific literature, and medical meetings) to Medical Strategy Teams and other cross-functional forums to discuss opportunities and action plans.

    + Collaborate to provide medical and scientific input and strategic support for clinical development, life-cycle management and commercialization strategies and plans for assigned compounds.

    + Lead the development of the US Launch plan for medical and serve as the medical affairs point on the Core Launch Team.

    + Prepare and utilize the annual operating budget. Submit and monitor annual budgets completely and in a timely fashion.

    Internal and External Contacts

    + Contribute to Advisory Boards Global and US training and Speaker training programs

    + Collaborate with Patient Value and Access (PVA) and appropriate commercial colleagues to develop product value proposition for payers/providers. Seek partnership opportunities with external groups and works with internal colleagues to develop program.

    + Engage in enterprise level activities for Takeda Oncology as needed (e.g. business development activities, spokesperson to public media)

    + Drive collaboration to maximize positive outcomes.

    + Develop and maintain a broad network of mutually supportive relationships with internal Takeda colleagues (including GMA, Commercial, Marketing, Market Access, R&D, Preclinical/Translational, and other affiliates) to ensure that MA scientific strategies are integrated with those of Takeda as a whole.

    + Collaborate with US National MSL Head and MSL Regional Directors to deliver appropriate activities for the US MSL team

    + Interface with Global Medical Affairs (and/or affiliate leadership ad hoc) to assess needs and align appropriate supportive resources.

    + Serve as a leader at the center of the interface with Alliance Partners’ Medical Affairs teams.

    + Develop working group structure, decision-making processes and governance for medical affairs interactions and lead the cross partnership working teams.

    Travel Requirements:

    Periodic travel required (up to 25%)

    $208,200.00 - $327,140.00

     

    The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.
