    The Role: Research Analyst, North America Power and Renewables, Grade 9-10

     

    The Location: Washington DC

     

    The Team: The North American Power & Renewables forecast teams produce and update long-term wholesale electricity price projections in support of generating asset transactions. The team leverages S&P Global's industry-leading databases of energy assets, commodities, and electricity companies to deliver timely and relevant projections for domestic U.S. electricity markets. Our team values collaboration, innovation, and a commitment to providing insights that drive strategic investment decisions.     The Impact: The role integrates multiple data sets into a simulation model, combined with expert research on policy and market developments to provide customers with guidance on generation investment, backed by deep projection-set content. Your work will directly influence investment strategies and contribute to the sustainable growth of the energy sector.

    Responsibilities:

    - Collaborate on production tasks for power forecast publication, including data set updates for assets, commodities, and loads.

     

    - Gain familiarity with policies driving asset value, including capacity markets, emissions regulations, tax incentives, and renewable portfolio standards.

     

    - Contribute quantitative analysis and commentary to published research.

     

    - Support ongoing client requests for forecast information and value-added content.

     

    - Engage with a global team to bring diverse perspectives into research and analysis.

    What We’re Looking For:

    Basic Qualifications:

    - BS/BA with coursework in mathematics, engineering, statistics, or economics.

     

    - Familiarity with quantitative tools including MS Excel, and database management systems and programming languages (e.g., Python, SQL), including application to large data sets for manipulation and analysis.

     

    - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

     

    - Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, global environment.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    - MS/MA in mathematics, statistics, economics, or similar quantitative discipline.

     

    - 1-3 years’ experience in an energy-related field.

     

    - Advanced relational database and programming skills; Python and SQL or equivalent experience in programming and relational database languages.

     

    - Experience with production-cost modeling of energy systems (Aurora, PLEXOS, Promod or similar).
