Essential functions (job duties):
The School of Social Work at Wayne State University (WSU) in Detroit, Michigan is committed to community engaged practice within our dynamic urban setting. We invite applications for one teaching faculty position from outstanding candidates with exemplary teaching who add to the collaborative and supportive environment within the SSW.
We are currently recruiting one outstanding candidate interested in teaching on campusand who can effectively teach and lead generalist MSW practice courses (individual, family and group), lead and oversee accreditation of school social work courses, and serve as the School Social Work Approval Coordinator. The ideal candidate will have experience with or strong knowledge of school social work. The position requires a teaching load of seven courses per academic year (fall and winter semesters). This role offers the potential for future leadership responsibilities, including program oversight and strategic input, for candidates demonstrating strong initiative and collaborative leadership skills.
The School of Social Work is committed to preparing students for social work practice that promotes wellbeing and social impact across society, with a particular focus on urban communities.
Qualifications:
Education
A doctorate earned in social work or related field (e.g. psychology, criminal justice, sociology) is strongly preferred. Candidates without a doctoral degree will be considered for the rank of a full-time instructor with the option of promotion to Assistant Professor of Teaching after earning a doctoral degree.
An earned MSW is required.
Experience
At least five years of professional post-MSW practice experience.
A strong record of teaching experience and expertise in BSW and MSW curricular areas.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Commitment to and ability to teach within a social work curriculum.
Experience with curricular development.
Well-versed in using technology in education.
Ability to engage students in the practical application of social work theory and practice from the classroom to the community.
Interpersonal skills that facilitate communication and connection in urban communities and disciplines.
