    What You Will Do:

    **Pratt & Whitney AutoAir (PWAA)** is seeking a talented and driven **Ground Test Lead Design Engineer (P4)** to join our Ground Test Division. This role provides a unique opportunity to work in a specialized area of engine design and operations, supporting development and aftermarket engine programs for all three major engine manufacturers.

    As a Ground Test Lead Design Engineer, you will be responsible for leading the complete product lifecycle for assemblies, including:

    + Decomposing customer requirements

    + Quoting and design development

    + Securing customer approvals

    + Overseeing manufacturing processes

    + Repair development and servicing

     

    Your designs will encompass the final assembly, all subcomponents and any support equipment necessary for the storage and handling of the assembly. Throughout the long lifecycle of these products, you may be tasked with evaluating any damage from normal operations and developing repairs to restore the assembly or components to original requirements.

    Key Responsibilities

    + Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of project assemblies using sound engineering principles and adhering to industry standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements.

    + Function as a design/structures engineer for hybrid composite-metallic components used in engine testing stands.

    + Lead a design team in the execution, development, and field issue resolution for assemblies over the product life cycle.

    + Providing design support throughout conceptual, preliminary, detailed design phases, to include validation, customer approval, manufacturing, and operational service.

    + Responsible for material selection, determination of laminate architecture, generation of detail/assembly-level CAD models, and design of sub-element components. May also include designing to a given surface.

    + Assist in manufacturing process development with the engineering team and ensure the manufacturability of component designs, documenting and presenting results to management and external customers. Assist shop floor personnel when needed.

    + Review and disposition nonconforming material to technical requirements.

    + Develop and validate repair processes in conjunction with manufacturing team.

    + Support vendor management through reviews of quotes and requests for modifications of technical requirements.

    + Contribute to Cost of Poor-Quality efforts, challenge existing processes, and drive improvements.

    + Ensure compliance with established engineering methodologies.

    + Use sound engineering judgment, technical expertise, and data analysis to make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks or problems.

    + Support program management by developing an engineering project plan, establishing work packages, milestones, objectives.

    + Provide engineering / technical support in a production environment.

    + Create detailed component-level requirements to meet overall system goals.

    + Communicate and make technical presentations to internal and external customers.

    + Mentor junior designers.

    Qualifications You Must Have

    + Advanced degree and 5+ years of experience in Engineering, Manufacturing Operations, or general Aftermarket MRO Aerospace industry experience; **OR** Bachelor’s degree and 8+ years of relevant industry experience.

    + Organizational, problem solving and project management skills

    + Experience with design for manufacturing & assembly

    + Understanding of manufacturing cost and reproducibility

    + Experience with GD&T to include determining tolerance requirements.

    + Experience reading and/or interpreting engine manuals and overhaul Quality standards

    Qualifications We Prefer

    + Bachelor’s degree in STEM field; Engineering preferred

    + Experience developing technical ideas with internal/external customers and a track record of converting ideas to programs

    + Experience with mechanical design (machining, joints, fasteners, welding) in relevant industry positions (aerospace, defense, automotive or similar)

    + Familiarity with Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) techniques, such as ultrasonic testing, eddy current, FPI, camera optics, X-ray and others used in aerospace.

    + Experience with composite design, analysis, and manufacturing.

    + Familiarity with principles of product development, reliability and quality control

    + Experience with configuration management.

    + Understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles, and continuous improvement tools (CORE/ACE/SixSigma)

    + Experience CAD software ideally Creo, Windchill, NX, FiberSIM and TeamCenter PLM

    + Ability to communicate at all levels of the organization including senior level management

    The salary range for this role is 101,000 USD - 203,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.

     

    RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.

     

    Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

     

    This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
