Artificial Intelligence is about to transform the F135 Program, the way we work internally, and with our customer. We need critical talent for this journey -- the F135 Artificial Intelligence Lead is an exciting role for leading new AI and ML initiatives in the F135 Program. Your key responsibility will be the F135 Digital Roadmap of AI/ML initiatives, creation through delivery, integrating and aligning our data and software capabilities with AI and ML use-cases. This role reports to the Program Digital Solutions “PDS” Enablement team with the mission to accelerate F135 digital delivery with AI and ML among other capabilities.
In service of driving decisions and results, you will find yourself engaging with colleagues ranging from Agile development teams, end-users of solutions, senior decision makers in F135 and Military Engines, integrated functions such as Digital Technology and Global Trade.
This role will apply a blend knowledge: rapidly changing AI/ML technical feasibility, F135 and Enterprise constraints, end-user processes and needs. Hands-on technical capabilities are welcome in this early stage, to help lift the effort as it scales. Executing the AI/ML Roadmap requires strong Agile processes and feedback loops and team coordination with the initiative owners and delivery teams.
What You Will Do:
+ Strategic Leadership and Roadmap Oversight: ensure AI/ML initiatives include prototypes, pilots and production deployments; maintain alignment with F135 priorities; establish metrics and governance frameworks to ensure progress and impact of initiatives
+ Technical Direction and Execution: drive MLOps practices across design, development, training, deployment, operation of production-grade AI/ML models and solutions; drive solution fitness and integration with existing and planned digital systems.
+ Compliance, Security and Risk Management: ensure F135 Program, customer, and enterprise data/software/cyber requirements are met; implement technical practices aligned to DoD Responsible AI guidelines.
+ Cross-Functional Collaboration: partner with PDS Agile teams, citizen dev teams, the integrated f135 Program functions, the Research Center; liaise with business development to support proposals, engage with external partners to drive pilots.
+ Talent Development and Discipline Leadership: mentor AI/ML talent; engage with established Disciplines communities; drive CORE/continuous learning, contribute best practices, technical feedback and reviews
+ Stakeholder Engagement and Communication: communicate concepts with clarity to executives and customers; provide regular roadmap updates; influence investments by quantifying the value and potential of AI/ML.
+ Innovation and Thought Leadership: track emerging AI/ML industry capabilities and assess applicability to F135; drive workshops and events leading to education and new pilot programs; represent the company at external events and forums.
Qualifications You Must Have:
+ Bachelor’s Degree Required
+ A minimum of 12 years of experience in solutions architecture or data architecture including a minimum of 7 years in AI/ML model development, deployment and lifecycle management, or an advanced degree in Computer Science or field related to Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning with 7+ years of experience in solutions architecture or data architecture including a minimum of 4 years in AI/ML model development, deployment and lifecycle management
+ Strong programming skills in Python and experience with ML frameworks (e.g. PyTorch); familiarity with MLOps, data pipelines, and secure model deployment
+ Experience leading cross-functional technical teams and managing multiple projects. Ability to communicate AI/ML concepts to technical and executive audiences
+ Working knowledge of government software compliance frameworks (NIST 800-171, CMMC)
+ Must be a U.S. Citizen. This position may require access to systems/tools that are restricted to individuals who possess US citizenship
Qualifications We Prefer:
+ Experience in specialized technology domains, including but not limited to Agentic AI, Ontology, Knowledge Graph, Networking, Cybersecurity, AI/ML engineering best practices
+ Experience in Aerospace & Defense systems, digital twins, or mission-critical applications, government cloud environments, transitioning Al from R&D to production in regulated environments
+ Knowledge of model validation & verification (V&V) for safety-critical systems, AI explainability and bias mitigation practices
+ Contributions to Al research, patents, or industry standards
+ Proven success in proposal writing, capture support, and customer engagement for government contracts

The salary range for this role is 147,000 USD - 295,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.
This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
