    Are you seeking a meaningful opportunity to contribute to campus-wide sustainability efforts in a collaborative and forward-thinking environment? SUNY Oneonta's Division of Finance and Administration invites applications for the position of Staff Assistant in the Office of Sustainability. This position will support the Office of Sustainability and assist the Associate Director of Sustainability in preparing, coordinating, implementing, and enhancing various sustainability initiatives within the campus community. The Office of Sustainability seeks a dynamic team player who has a clear commitment to sustainability and up-to-date knowledge of sustainability news, trends, and issues; a willingness to collaborate with students, faculty, and staff; and excellent communication, organization, and time management skills. You will work regular office hours, with occasional evening and weekends. This is an 11-month position, tentatively scheduled to begin on or around December 31, 2025.

     

    The Division of Finance and Administration at SUNY Oneonta includes several administrative offices providing a wide array of services in support of the university's mission, values and vision. Under the Division of Finance and Administration, the Office of Sustainability coordinates the integration of sustainability into all aspects of SUNY Oneonta, in academics, operations, and engagement. Recent sustainability accolades include a STARS Silver rating from Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education, highlighting our commitment to integrating sustainability across all areas of campus life, two LEED-certified building Alumni Hall (Platinum) and Physical Science (Gold) and a 2024 NYSAR3 Leadership Award for our Move In waste reduction program.

    Duties include but are not limited to:

    + Collaborate with the Associate Director of Sustainability in supporting a culture of sustainability within the campus community and coordinating sustainability initiatives.

    + Manage operations for the Red Dragon Thrift Shop using a circular economy framework.

    + Coordinate, develop, and implement sustainability-themed training programs in Residence Halls.

    + Assist with Move Out and Move In programs.

    + Create, manage, and distribute promotional and educational materials for the Office of Sustainability, such as signage, fliers, bulletin board displays, social media campaigns, sustainability guides, and training materials.

    + Support sustainability-related campus policies and procedures.

    + Hire, train, supervise and delegate tasks to our tiered sustainability leadership program made up of interns, members of Empire State Service Corps, and the EcoRep volunteer program.

    + Coordinate training and presentations in support of energy and water conservation, waste minimization, recycling, sustainable building and landscape design, alternative transportation, procurement of green products and other sustainability topics as needed geared at residence life, student groups, and the general campus community

    Job Requirements:

    Minimum Qualifications:

    + Bachelor's degree (completion required by date of appointment).

    + Demonstrated experience, interest, or commitment to sustainability, reflecting SUNY Oneonta's core values of environmental conservation, operational efficiency, and campus-wide engagement through education and initiatives.

    Preferred:

    + Knowledge of sustainability news, trends, and issues such as:

    + Climate change

    + Green workforce

    + Environmental justice

    + United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

    + Ability to train, supervise, and delegate tasks for student interns.

    + Ability to coordinate, implement, and lead sustainability-themed events or programs.

    + Ability to create, manage, and distribute sustainability-themed promotional and educational materials.

    + Experience in collaborating with faculty and students at a higher education institution.

    + Experience in collaborating with or serving diverse and/or multicultural populations.
