Position Summary:
The Higher Education Opportunity Program ( HEOP ) is a grant-funded program jointly supported by Fordham University and the New York State Education Department. Students who are admitted as a part of the HEOP come from academically and economically high-need backgrounds. All students are New York State residents and meet the income guidelines as determined by the New York State Education Department.
The HEOP provides supplementary financial and academic support services to students who are admitted as part of the program. The HEOP is a part of the admission process and assists students in preparing and submitting documents to the University’s Financial Services Office to determine eligibility and to complete the financial aid process.
The HEOP Counselor/Academic Adviser is a full-time position that reports to the Director of HEOP at Rose Hill. The position is based at the Rose Hill campus in the Bronx. The HEOP Counselor/Academic Adviser is part of a dedicated team of full-time administrators who work
collaboratively with other HEOP colleagues and campus partners to serve HEOP students effectively.
This position is grant-funded, and its continuation is dependent on grant renewal.
Essential Functions:
Provides academic, personal, financial, and career counseling to students and makes referrals as needed to support and facilitate retention.
Assesses student skills and goals, and encourage their participation in academic support activities.
Maintains appropriate records on student academic progress and financial aid.
Monitors students’ academic performance and progress through review of tutor contacts, midterm, and final grades.
Assists students with the financial aid renewal process.
Participates in the recruitment process and discusses HEOP with prospective students and their families.
Teaches and assists in planning the HEOP Summer Program, which is mandatory for all incoming first-year program students.
Communicates and collaborates with other program staff for the effective delivery of academic support services to program students.
Maintains student data and assists in preparing reports for the New York State Education Department and Fordham University.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree
At least 0-2 years of working with undergraduate students and/or disadvantaged populations.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree
Minimum Salary: $70,000
Maximum Salary: $73,000
