FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
ABOUT THE COLLEGE
**The CUNY Graduate Center** , led by President Joshua Brumberg, is the principal doctoral-granting institution of the City University of New York, offering nearly 50 master’s, doctoral, and certificate programs across the humanities, social sciences, and science. It is classified as an “R1/highest research activity” institution, supporting robust interdisciplinary research, with a faculty composed of both core GC scholars and consortia faculty from across the CUNY system. The Graduate Center hosts many research centers and institutes (including the Advanced Science Research Center) that facilitate collaboration and innovation in areas such as nanoscience, environmental science, neuroscience, and more.
The Graduate Center offers a vibrant intellectual environment marked by frequent public lectures, interdisciplinary conferences, and dynamic research centers spanning the humanities, social sciences, and sciences. Initiatives like the Center for the Humanities, the Teaching and Learning Center, and the Interactive Technology and Pedagogy Program, regularly engage both faculty and students and foster collaboration and innovation in research and pedagogy. Public programming such as Intellectual Publics, the Writers’ Institute, and art exhibitions at the James Gallery connect academic work with New York City’s broader cultural community. This ecosystem of dialogue, creativity, and public engagement makes the Graduate Center especially appealing to scholars seeking to contribute to and benefit from a deeply interconnected and visible academic community.
**John Jay College of Criminal Justice** is a senior college of the City University of New York (CUNY) and an internationally recognized leader in educating for justice. Led by President Karol V. Mason, John Jay is a federally designated Hispanic-serving institution, it is ranked third in the nation in Black student success, and it is a top ten institution for promoting student social mobility. John Jay is proud to serve a diverse and dynamic student body of 15,000 students that includes nearly fifty percent students who are first in their family to attend college as well as students who are immigrants, from low-income families, or from other historically underrepresented groups in higher education.
The College participates in the doctoral programs of the Graduate Center of CUNY, and offers bachelor’s and master’s degrees both in traditional criminal justice-related fields of study, as well as in a robust portfolio of liberal arts and sciences programs that highlight themes of justice across the arts, sciences, humanities, and social sciences. The College seeks staff and faculty members who thrive in multicultural academic environments and are committed to access and excellence in higher education.

2. **Teach at the Graduate Center and at John Jay:** Teach, mentor, and supervise doctoral students in The Graduate Center’s Ph.D. program at John Jay College, including chairing dissertation committees and serving as a faculty research advisor. The position would require teaching two classes each semester (split between the Doctoral Program and John Jay College’s course offerings through the home department).
3. **Seek External Funding:** Actively seek external research funding and grants to support their work and doctoral student research.
4. **Engage in Service:** Actively engage in all aspects of the PhD program activities, as well as service in the candidate’s home department.
