Job Description
50%: Research and Data Analysis - Designs, conducts, and leads research projects focused on climate-smart agricultural practices integrating remote sensing, soil and crop modeling, and greenhouse gas monitoring. - Collects, processes, and analyzes large datasets from field and satellite sources. - Interprets results, prepares technical reports, and contributes to peer-reviewed publications and funding proposals.
25%: Outreach and Stakeholder Engagement - Develops outreach materials, presentations, and decision-support tools to communicate research findings to producers, stakeholders and extension personnel - Organizes and participates in producer field days, workshops, and scientific meetings. - Collaborates with state and regional partners to advance adoption of sustainable agricultural practices.
15%: Mentoring and Laboratory Management - Mentors graduate students and research technicians in data analysis, field methods, and scientific communication. - Oversees laboratory organization, safety, and standard operating procedures. - Coordinates data management, documentation, and quality assurance activities.
5%: Grant Writing and Project Coordination - Assists in developing competitive grant proposals and project reports. - Coordinates with multidisciplinary research teams and external collaborators to ensure project milestones are met.
5%: Other Duties as Assigned - Performs other related duties and responsibilities as directed to support the mission of Texas A&M AgriLife Research and the Agroecology Laboratory.
Required Education: Ph.D. in agronomy, remote sensing, soil science, environmental science, or a related discipline.
Preferred Experience: - Experience conducting research in agronomy, soil science, environmental science, or related fields. - Experience in remote sensing, geospatial analysis, or modeling of agricultural or environmental systems. - Record of publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals. - Experience working collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams. - Experience with greenhouse gas measurements, eddy covariance, or soil gas flux systems.- Experience managing and analyzing large datasets using programming languages such as R or Python.- Experience in outreach, stakeholder engagement, or extension-type activities.- Experience mentoring graduate students or supervising technical staff.- Experience writing grant proposals and managing research projects.- Experience integrating field data with remote sensing or modeling approaches.
Required knowledge, skills and abilities:
Good communication and computer skills.
Ability to multi task and work cooperatively with others.
