Home Office based positions: Hannaford offers a flexible work environment, with a hybrid work expectation for Home Office based positions of being physically present in the Scarborough Home Office 3 days a week. Position Summary: This person owns Category Management, Merchandising and Pricing for their functions and is responsible for strategically leading and directing assigned department/categories to maximize sales growth & profitability. Drive performance of assigned department/categories through the development of category plans to increase sales, assortment to meet customer needs, appropriate floor plan/planogram, and balanced approach to pricing and effective product flow. Key decision influencer. Collaborate and work cross functionally with various functions to effectively drive and execute business initiatives. Direct field sales team and work closely with Retail Operations to implement programs to optimize results. Develop and nurture strategic vendor alliances required to identify synergies, promote mutual growth, maximize resources, ensure consumer focus, and capitalize on market opportunities. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: + Develop long-term category/department business plan strategies, roadmaps, merchandising and action plans to assist Category Managers and Field Team in the execution of the category management and to achieve profitable growth in the portfolio. + Create goals that achieve financial objectives and support the strategic visions of the department(s) and organization. + Oversee department(s) daily and weekly functions to ensure functions are completed accurately and on time. + Work with Store Operations teams to align labor and shrink models to ensure proper Divisional execution. + Direct the creation and execution of procurement, replenishment, and inventory management strategies across all Divisions. + Conduct regular visits with stores, suppliers, and distribution partners; direct field merchandising to best understand and respond to needs/opportunities for assigned categories/department. + Cross-functionally support and represent Merchandising as needed by the business. + Institute methods and processes to constantly improve customer perceptions of the category, manage strategies to consumer insights for quality and image. + Partner and provide strategic guidance to the private brand development strategy. + Respond to food safety issues as they arise within the department and implement preventative actions. + Continuously evaluate category financial and operational performance against goals and assert corrective strategic action as required. + Manage compliance (memorandums and regulatory compliance). + Ensure service performance metrics are negotiated and hold vendors accountable to agreements - sales, service levels, funding, marketing, and compliance for vendors. Assess supplier capabilities and suitability. + Work cross functionally with logistics and suppliers to identify best supply chain management principles. + Manage, evaluate, mentor, train and develop team to make decisions within their scope of responsibility. + Provide inspirational leadership to guide merchandising teams toward operational excellence. Qualifications and Experience: + 8-10 years of experience in a leadership position. + Bachelor's degree. + Ability to understand business financial concepts and deliver desired sustainable results. + 4 years of demonstrated experience leading, developing, and managing a team. Preferred: + Working knowledge of relationship management with vendors, brokers, and third-party consultants + Negotiation experience + Master of Business Administration Degree (MBA) Skills and Abilities: Competency Description Analytics & Insights Developing actionable insights based on an analysis of information and research, which can serve as the basis for decision making, strategy creation and initiatives/solutions. Assortment Ability to optimize assortment both in-store and on-line, to meet identified customer wants, commercial needs and marketplace competitive positioning Collaborative Partnerships Ability to create internal and external cross-functional relationships that enable the development of beneficial solutions. eCommerce Acumen Ability to understand and apply knowledge of eCommerce drivers and insights, partnering with PDL, to develop digital focused solutions which produce sustainable results. Financial & Business Acumen Ability to understand and apply knowledge of Hannaford and supplier business financial drivers, practices, and concepts to develop ideas/solutions which produce desired sustainable results. Forecasting & Replenishment Ability to understand & utilize Hannaford's procurement systems, tools & processes to ensure effective logistics for consistent product flow & availability In-Store & Digital Shelf Management & Merchandising Ability to understand, create, and implement consistent in-store and digital merchandising and shelf management initiatives, utilizing related tools to support Hannaford's strategies and direction. Internal & External Communication & Documentation Ability to communicate with internal partners and external suppliers across functions; Communication may be oral or written including formal presentations and required documentation Negotiation Ability to gain alignment between internal and external parties, while achieving positive business results Pricing & Promotion Ability to understand, develop, and implement pricing and promotion initiatives that support the Hannaford pricing strategy. Product, Category, & Industry Knowledge Ability to apply understanding of food safety, product specifications, category, supplier & industry dynamics, and marketplace trends to deliver our desired business results Product Development & Assortment Ability to develop and/or implement product development and assortment initiatives across all retail formats (On-Line & In-Store) to drive desired business results. Strategic Business Planning Ability to develop and implement comprehensive Category Leadership Solutions, including facilitating tactics and plans that deliver Hannaford's strategy.
