    Job Title: Lead Histotechnologist

    Job Description

    We are seeking a dedicated Lead Histotechnologist to join our laboratory team. The successful candidate will perform grossing, tissue embedding, and microtomy while adhering to established protocols. This role involves preparing reagents, conducting routine and special staining procedures, including immunohistochemistry, and ensuring accurate record-keeping and regulatory compliance.

    Responsibilities

    + Perform grossing, tissue embedding, and microtomy following established protocols.

    + Prepare reagents and conduct routine and special staining procedures (manual and automated), including immunohistochemistry.

    + Receive and log specimens, maintaining accurate records of workload, quality control, and regulatory documentation.

    + Ensure proper matching of slides and reports, and maintain and archive block files and slides.

    + Conduct quality control on specimens and reagents, troubleshoot and resolve assay and stain issues.

    + Prepare for regulatory inspections and assist in investigations related to patient safety and lab operations.

    + Support less experienced staff with problem-solving and documentation.

    + Perform routine equipment maintenance and report operational issues.

    + Maintain inventory of supplies, assist with monthly counts, and notify leadership of shortages.

    + Adhere to safety protocols, including proper use of PPE and disposal of biohazard and hazardous waste.

    + Participate in continuing education and attend required meetings.

    + Demonstrate professionalism and respect toward all lab and practice personnel.

    + Oversee a team of 3-5 staff members.

    Essential Skills

    + Histology

    + ASCP certification

    + Leadership skills

    + Clinical laboratory expertise

    + Medical laboratory proficiency

     

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

     

    + Histology Technologist (HTL) certification or Histology Laboratory Technician (HT) certification issued by ASCP

    + Associate or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, allied health science or related field of study

    + Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in Histology

    + Microtomy experience

    + Administrative experience: filing, maintaining logs/records, use of computerized databases, verbal and written communications

    + Training/leadership experience of 1 year

    + CPR certification (nice to have)

    Work Environment

    This is a full-time position with a 40-hour work week. The work hours are Monday to Friday, 5am to 1pm, with no weekends and no on-call duties. A 3% merit raise is given after each year of experience earned.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $45.00/hr.
