    Job Title: SAS Technician II - Systems Technician

    Job Description

    We are seeking a highly skilled SAS Technician II - Systems Technician with a strong mechanical inclination, particularly in opto-mechanical systems. This role involves building first articles, conducting root cause analysis, and performing hands-on mechanical work. The position requires familiarity with optics handling, testing, assembly, and procedural testing to assess optical performance.

    Responsibilities

    + Build and test first article units for optical performance and top-level assembly.

    + Perform hands-on mechanical work, including root cause analysis and tearing down units.

    + Conduct assembly and procedural testing of optical components.

    + Carry out some electrical testing, with a primary focus on mechanical tasks.

    + Handle ambiguity and work between teams to build and test first units.

    Essential Skills

    + Prototype and hardware build experience.

    + Opto-mechanical experience with a focus on mechanical and optical systems.

    + Ability to use basic measurement tools like calipers, micrometers, and gauges.

    + Experience reading engineering drawings and understanding basic GD&T.

    + Minimum 1 year of experience in building/testing equipment.

     

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

     

    + Associate's degree, technical certificate, or equivalent hands-on experience in machining, optics, or quality inspection.

    + Experience with data entry and documentation in manufacturing environments.

    + Preferred experience with testing assemblies and opto-mechanical products.

    + Knowledge of SPC or measurement data analysis.

    + Previous experience in precision manufacturing or optical/photonics lab environment.

    Work Environment

    This position is based onsite in Redmond, WA, within an ISO-certified cleanroom environment. You will join a specialized team responsible for high-precision optical metrology in the Optical Inter-Satellite Link (OISL) program. The role offers exposure to advanced optical fabrication processes and cutting-edge metrology equipment. The work involves interfacing with optical fabrication engineers, systems engineers, and quality assurance teams to maintain excellence in optical measurement and characterization processes. Your contributions will impact the performance and reliability of space-based optical communication systems.
