Job Description:
We are seeking a dedicated Distribution Design Engineer II to develop and manage design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems, operating from 4kV through 138kV. This role involves supporting programmatic work related to overloaded transformers, inspection and maintenance, joint use, and inspection reports. The ideal candidate will comply with safety requirements, design and quality expectations, and provide engineering support during construction.
Responsibilities:
+ Develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems.
+ Ensure compliance with safety requirements, design, and quality expectations.
+ Travel to sites for inspections and perform engineering design work.
+ Perform engineering calculations such as structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, specifying conductor sags and tensions, and voltage drop and flicker calculations.
+ Develop permitting documents for different Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).
+ Provide engineering support during construction, including post-construction reviews to ensure engineering and construction standards compliance.
+ Conduct root cause analysis of outages and implement mitigation using engineering principles and design.
Essential Skills:
+ Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field with 2-4 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree with less than 2 years of relevant experience.
+ Proficiency in distribution design, power distribution, and engineering.
+ Experience with GIS, Maximo, and utility design.
+ Comfortable working in both field and office settings.
Additional Skills & Qualifications:
+ Experience with distribution design tools such as BOUD, SOCKET, or similar.
+ Proficiency in CAD tools, MicroStation, and/or GIS.
+ Familiarity with the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) and design standards.
Work Environment:
This position requires on-site work, providing a dynamic environment where you will be involved in both field and office settings. You will utilize technologies such as GE Smallworld, Bentley Expert Designer, and other customer GIS and WMS systems. The role includes training in customer engineering and construction standards, offering opportunities for growth in complex cable/conduit projects, easements, and ROW applications.
Job Type & Location:
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Houston, Texas.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $36.00/hr.
