Leggett & Platt, Inc., North America’s leading independent manufacturer of office furniture components and mechanisms, is seeking aSenior Product Development Engineerto join our Engineering team supporting the Work Furniture business. Our division specializes in high-quality contract furniture products, including chair mechanisms, bases, arms, seats, backs, and private label finished seating. Work Furniture brings diverse world-class manufacturing capabilities together in the production and assembly of high-quality contract furniture products.
As aSenior Product Development Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in driving innovation, leading complex development projects, and mentoring junior engineers. You’ll bring deep technical expertise and strategic thinking to accelerate speed-to-market and support revenue growth through trendsetting product launches. This role offers the opportunity to collaborate across disciplines and influence the future of the L&P Work Furniture business unit.
So, what will you be doing as a Senior Product Development Engineer?
+ Lead the design and development of new products and enhancements to meet technical, safety, and customer specifications.
+ Oversee product development lifecycle using SolidWorks and other CAD tools from concept through validation and launch.
+ Guide prototyping and testing efforts, ensuring robust performance and manufacturability.
+ Research and integrate new technologies, equipment, and processes to enhance performance and sustainability.
+ Collaborate with cross-functional teams including R&D, manufacturing, sales, and external suppliers.
+ Solve complex engineering challenges with creativity, precision, and a focus on continuous improvement.
+ 10% domestic and international travel required.
To be successful in this role, you’ll need:
+ Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (preferred)
+ 7+ yearsof design experience, preferably in furniture, consumer products, or mechanical systems
+ Advanced proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks preferred), drawing creation, and FEA
+ Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and design for manufacturability (DFM)
+ Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deliver results in a face-paced environment.
