• Senior Security Engineer

    Description

    We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Senior Security Engineer to join our client's cybersecurity team. This key leadership role is available for candidates based in Oakland, NY, or as a remote opportunity in the US. The ideal candidate will operate as a senior subject matter expert, complementing a recently established team of engineers. This is a contract-to-hire role.

    Key Responsibilities:

    + Serve as a technical mentor and advisor to security analysts, fostering skill development and organizational knowledge sharing.

    + Provide expertise in firewalls with 10+ years of experience (strong preference for Cisco; Palo Alto experience a plus to align with the current environment).

    + Demonstrate a deep understanding of networking fundamentals, including traffic blocking and network segmentation.

    + Leverage SIEM platforms experience (Rapid7 preferred but open to other SIEMs) with a focus on conceptual and practical applications.

    + Collaborate with the infrastructure team to enhance IAM and cloud security across Azure, AWS, and Google Cloud (Okta experience is essential).

    + Contribute to network security initiatives, auditing and enforcing Zero Trust policies, data loss prevention, and governance.

    + Utilize and, when necessary, recommend automation tools; experience with custom scripting is a bonus but not required.

    Requirements

    + 10+ years of professional experience in security engineering, with a strong foundation in infrastructure and networking.

    + Proficiency in network security tools and concepts; this role does not involve direct, hands-on network engineering but requires collaboration with infrastructure teams.

    + Track record of supporting IAM, Zero Trust, and cloud security governance, as well as hands-on experience with data loss prevention solutions.

    + Strong interpersonal and mentorship skills to collaborate effectively with global teams.

    + Passionate about learning, staying current in cybersecurity trends, and pursuing certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or others.

    + Ability to support projects led by the network engineering team, audit and enforce access and security rules across the environment, and drive initiatives to secure sensitive data with hands-on solutions.
