General Ledger Accountant – Real Estate

Schedule: Full-Time | Monday–Friday, Standard Business Hours

A well-established real estate firm is seeking a General Ledger Accountant to join its dynamic team. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with property management and accounting teams, supporting financial operations across a diverse portfolio. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and thrives in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Operations & Reporting

+ Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, collections, and revenue/expense coding

+ Analyze and reconcile balance sheet accounts

+ Post non-recurring tenant charges as requested by property management

+ Prepare journal entries with appropriate documentation

+ Participate in month-end close and prepare monthly financial reporting packages

+ Monitor and review cash flow forecasts across multiple bank accounts and projects

+ Review outstanding A/R balances for accuracy

+ Proactively resolve issues impacting financial statements

Compliance & Administration

+ Ensure adherence to capitalization policies for fixed assets

+ Maintain compliance with internal accounting policies

+ Coordinate interdepartmental workflows between property management and accounting

+ Manage electronic filing of property-related accounting documentation

+ Perform other duties as assigned

Work Environment & Physical Demands

+ Professional office setting with standard equipment (computers, phones, copiers, etc.)

+ Regularly required to talk, hear, stand, walk, and use hands for various tasks

Requirements

Qualifications & Competencies

Education & Experience

+ Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Real Estate, or related field

+ Minimum 2 years of experience in a professional business environment, preferably in real estate

+ Experience in multifamily property accounting is a plus

Skills & Attributes

+ Strong organizational, analytical, and time management skills

+ Excellent written and verbal communication

+ Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines

+ High level of integrity and discretion with confidential financial information

+ Proactive, goal-oriented, and self-motivated

Technical Proficiency

+ Proficient in property management accounting software

+ Skilled in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel; familiarity with Google Docs/Sheets is a plus

+ Ability to interpret complex lease documents
