             Summary You will serve as a Shipfitter Leader (Tank Coordinator) in the Production Resource Department of PSNS and IMF. Responsibilities You will coordinate structural and non-structural work within tanks and other confined spaces aboard surface ships and submarines. You will perform shipfitting work associated with tanks directly from technical work documents and drawings. You will act as a point of contact for all trades and outside activities to schedule and accomplish work as well as request opening, cleaning, and gas free certification of confined spaces. You will identify ships components using technical work documents and drawings, perform opening and inspection of confined spaces, and coordinate other shop inspections and repairs within tanks. You will interact with various trades responsible for execution of production tasks within confined spaces such as other Shipfitters, Sheetmetal Mechanics, Pipefitters, Riggers, Insulators, Machinists, Shipwrights, Electricians, Welders, etc. You will identify, perform, and coordinate gas free services to support production work within confined spaces and receive requests from other production shops including inspection, hot and cold work, and work with hazardous materials. You will perform structural work as a shipfitter mechanic to remove, repair, layout, fabricate, and assemble structural parts and components and install and fit parts on ships. You will locate positions of pieces by reference to water line, center lines, frame lines, buttock lines and other reference points. You will perform administrative functions and/or works with administrative staff to develop and maintain computer generated forms, reports, and databases. You will utilize a comprehensive knowledge of shipfitter trade, practices, procedures, and standards applicable to the performance of structural work in Shipyard functions and operate various machines and hand tools of the shipfitting trade. You will utilize knowledge of the shipyard’s Environmental, Safety and Health programs to include Hot Work Safety, Confined Space safety, and Gas Free certification process. You will utilize knowledge in Production Department/Operations Department working conditions, procedures, processes, and work practices with regard to those functions outlined by Nuclear and Non-nuclear Tank Coordination instructions. You will apply knowledge of Cleanliness Inspection levels for tank work, Foreign Material Exclusion (FME) responsibilities, work control and authorization programs. You will interpret design criteria sufficient to review plans, drawings, and other written documents that provide guidance, practices, and procedures for a wide variety of work functions. You will review technical work documents, drawings, physical accomplishment of shipfitter tasks, and physical inspection of work areas and review not only shipfitter tasking but other tasking as well. You will make recommendations to the project managers, work site supervisors, and employees and provide lessons learned and background, based on experience, to all levels. You will coordinate work required within confined spaces on all projects and conduct inspections, investigates problems, and provides information and guidance to all levels.
