    Advancement at CU Boulder encourages applications for a Senior Director of Data Insights! This role is responsible for leading the strategic use of data to advise, optimize, and advance the fundraising and engagement goals of CU Boulder's multi-billion-dollar comprehensive campaign. This position provides vision and leadership for the design, analysis, and interpretation of data that drives strategic decisions across Advancement, ensuring CU Boulder's success through actionable insights, predictive modeling, and performance measurement. The Senior Director manages three data professionals who deliver high-quality analytics, reporting, and forecasting in support of campaign planning, annual goal setting, and progress monitoring.Reporting to the Executive Director of Fundraising Operations, this position serves as a key member to the Advancement team, collaborating with unit leaders, campaign counsel, and the CU System Advancement offices in research and prospect development to ensure alignment of data strategy with institutional priorities. The Senior Director leads the development and implementation of data tools and dashboards that enable real-time insight into fundraising progress, prospect pipelines, and engagement outcomes, supporting an evidence-based culture of philanthropy across CU Boulder Advancement.The successful candidate will possess a deep understanding of advancement data, campaign metrics, portfolio management and performance management, along with the ability to communicate sophisticated insights in clear, actionable ways. A strategic problem solver and collaborative leader, the Senior Director will inspire a data-informed approach across the organization, ensuring that data serves as both a compass and motivator for decision-making.

    What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

    Strategy and Execution

    + Lead the central initiative planning and execution of a data-informed culture across CU Boulder Advancement. Align measurement strategies with institutional vision, fundraising and engagement goals, and multi-billion-dollar campaign objectives.

    + Partner closely with the Campaign and Strategy team to provide data, insights, and analysis that advise campaign goal setting, progress tracking, and strategic decision-making.

    + Develop and implement a strategic insights framework to guide decision-making and resource allocation across fundraising and engagement efforts.

    + Deliver high-impact reporting, forecasting, and analysis to CU Boulder Advancement leadership, enabling data-driven goal setting, performance monitoring, and campaign progress evaluation.

    + Synthesize complex data into clear narratives, insights, and strategic recommendations for internal and external partners with the objective of increasing meaningful engagement and philanthropic support for the university.

    + Conduct deep analysis of trends, patterns, and gaps in philanthropic giving, alumni engagement, and campaign performance; benchmark CU Boulder against peer and aspirant institutions to guide continuous improvement.

    + Work on the strategic direction of the division and providing data-informed guidance on priorities, opportunities, and challenges.

    Team Management and Leadership

    + Lead, manage, and mentor a high-performing team of data analysts and insight professionals responsible for delivering accurate, timely, and actionable reporting and analysis.

    + Serve as the primary liaison to CU System embedded teams in Prospect Research and Prospect Development, fostering alignment and shared priorities across data teams.

    + Promote continuous learning and innovation within the team, including professional development, adoption of emerging tools/methodologies, and knowledge-sharing.

    + Supervise administrative and operational activities including performance management, hiring, training, and onboarding for the Data Insights team.

    + Manage team capacity, workload planning, and prioritization of high-impact projects that support Advancement's central initiatives.

    + Support budget planning and resource allocation to ensure appropriate investments in data infrastructure, tools, and professional development.

    Other Strategic Engagement Duties as Assigned

    + Serve as an institutional expert on Advancement data and analytics, representing CU Boulder in cross-campus collaborations related to data governance, campaign strategy, and business intelligence.

    + Establish and maintain strong working relationships with fundraising, engagement, and operations leaders to support donor pipeline development, portfolio optimization, and alumni engagement strategies.

    + Regularly meet with campus partners and unit-based Advancement teams to consult on data needs and share insights that support localized strategy development.

    + Participate in and contribute to advancement-wide data strategy discussions to enhance data sharing, integration, and decision-making.

    What You Should Know

    + This position may require occasional local, regional, and out-of-state travel to engage with university constituents.

    + This position has the ability to work a hybrid schedule with some days on campus and some days remote.

    + This position will occasionally be required to work evenings/weekends.

     

    What We Can Offer

     

    The salary range is $145,000 - $165,000 annually. Relocation assistance may be available within Advancement guidelines.

    What We Require

    + Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    + Experience: 6+ years of professional, job related experience including 1+ years of team lead or supervision experience.

    + Experience working on internal databases, BI applications, tools, and systems preferably in a higher education environment.

    + Experience in a supervisory role, which may include assigning and reviewing the work of others, providing guidance to internal and external team members, and/or assisting management with performance reviews to ensure continuous improvement, excellence, and employee retention.

    + Experience in fundraising and engagement.
