As Georgia’s public safety net, DBHDD operates six field offices and five hospitals throughout the state within three program areas: behavioral health, developmental disabilities, and hospital services. Central State Hospital (CSH) is the home of Georgia’s maximum secure forensic hospital, operated in the Payton B. Cook building in Milledgeville. CSH serves individuals who are referred by the criminal justice system for pre-trial psychiatric evaluation and/or inpatient treatment; those who have been found not guilty by reason of insanity at the time of commission of a crime or mentally incompetent to stand trial; and those who are admitted on hold orders from jails for psychiatric evaluation, treatment and stabilization. CSH is seeking candidates for the position of Physician (Board Certified) – Full Time Job Description Under general supervision, provides comprehensive medical services by examining patients, diagnosing conditions, and providing treatments. Directs nurses, aides and others in the care and treatment of patients. • Supervising staff including physician assistants and nurse practitioners • Refers patients to medical specialists or other practitioners when necessary + Advises patients on health care including health promotion, disease, illness and accident prevention. + Coordinates work with nurses, social workers, rehabilitation therapists, pharmacists, psychologists and other health care providers. + Directs and coordinates activities of nurses, students, assistants, specialists, therapists, and other medical staff. + Examines patients and take their histories, order laboratory tests, X-rays and other diagnostic procedures and consult with other medical practitioners to evaluate patients’ physical and mental health. + Prescribes or administers treatment, therapy, medication, vaccination, and other specialized medical care to treat or prevent illness, disease, or injury. + In the EMR system, completes all orders and documents all evaluations, notes treatment, and plans within prescribed time frames and according to established guidelines. + Consults with referring M.D. as needed. + Provides emergency medical care. + Other duties as assigned. Adult Mental Health (AMH) Treatment Team - Provides comprehensive medical services by examining patients, diagnosing conditions, and providing treatments. Directs nurses, aides and others in the care and treatment of patients. May direct clinical operations and participate in research efforts.
