Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO&I) is the team behind the cloud. Within CO&I, the Global Datacenter Engineering (GDCE) team is responsible for delivering core datacenter infrastructure for Microsoft’s cloud business. The MS portfolio consists of complex, multi-disciplinary, large scale, multi-year datacenter construction and lease projects. We are looking for a passionate individual to help build the cloud datacenters that power the world’s largest online services.
In this unique engineering position as a **Senior Technical Power Harvesting Engineer** , you will join a diverse and highly energetic team of professional Subject Matter Experts to optimize, innovate, and deliver datacenter power harvesting and optimization solutions through cutting edge engineering techniques, AI Modeling, innovative feasibility assessment, statistical analysis and more. Be among professionals that engage and collaborate in some of the latest datacenter cutting edge solutions for the next generation of datacenters. The candidate will directly support the global DCE Power Harvesting Global Strategy team.

Responsibilities
Power Harvesting & Capacity Optimization:
• Perform detailed analysis of datacenter Space, Power, Cooling and Network, (SPCN) assessment to identify power harvesting opportunities.
• Seek emerging and proactive opportunities to optimize Microsoft’s installed capacity and increase business revenue.
• Work with Global Capacity Planning teams to mitigate capacity gaps using innovative approaches.
• Develop engineering models for capacity recovery, stranded capacity reduction, and “failover” analysis.
• Leverage engineering SLDs and documentation with modeling to identify datacenter infrastructure capacity constraints.
• Align with project execution teams to ensure all work is planned and executed without impacting Microsoft’s Critical Environment.
AI, Automation & Engineering Innovation:
• Develop creative and innovative solutions to optimize and utilize stranded capacity while ensuring all customer services remain secure.
• Develop automation solutions to innovate and enhance workflows and processes.
• Develop Generative AI technologies to solve complex engineering and operational challenges.
• Contribute to the overall technical and innovative vision to build scalable, intelligent solutions.
• Assess, recommend, and adopt relevant new technologies, tools, and processes from Microsoft and the industry.
Data Analytics & Tooling:
• Leverage programming tools to deliver data-driven analytics for predictive and insightful analysis.
• Apply AI-driven solutions and analytics to scale Power Harvesting efficiency with innovative automation solutions to enhance engineering modeling and streamline engineering processes and extract deep insights from data to inform strategic decisions.
Collaboration & Execution:
• Collaborate with a diverse and supportive group of Engineers and Stakeholders.
• Collaborate with Power Harvesting IUE program managers and Datacenter Operations engineers and PMs to develop optimization strategies.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
• Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years technical.
• 3+ years’ experience in engineering or operations of hyperscale datacenters or large-scale critical systems.
• 3+ years' experience with programming development skills and/or generative AI applications.
• Demonstrated knowledge of automated workflow processes and solutions, electrical and cooling theory with practical application, datacenter design and failover assessment, and cloud technologies, power, mechanical, and network redundancy.
• Demonstrated understanding of construction documentation (blueprints, electrical one-lines, etc.).
• Ability to present using the MS Office Suite, MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint, Visio, Bluebeam Revu.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
+ Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience OR equivalent experience.
• Licensed Professional Engineer.
• Experience with existing datacenter designs, redundancy, and form factors.
• Python coding experience is a plus for developing model solutions.
• Practical experience with building automation and electrical power monitoring systems.
• Ability to use Kusto Query for statistical data analysis.
• Process workflow automation experience.
Electrical Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
