    WE are seeking a **_Physician Assistant (PA)_** in Pediatric Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery who will provide high-quality, patient-centered care in both inpatient and outpatient settings. This hybrid role offers the opportunity to train alongside a diverse surgeon team, develop procedural expertise, and ultimately practice with a high degree of independence and collaboration.

     

    The PA will support the perioperative pediatric otolaryngology service line, serving as an integral member of the pediatric otolaryngology team, ensuring seamless coordination of care across the emergency department, inpatient wards, intensive care unit, operating room, and outpatient clinics. This individual will help to drive innovations in perioperative protocols, multidisciplinary collaboration, and electronic care pathways that contribute to patient safety, care efficiency, and quality outcomes. Candidates should be compassionate, highly motivated to learn and become independent, goal-oriented, and dedicated to caring for children with complex pediatric otolaryngology needs. Prior experience in pediatric or surgical care is highly desirable.

     

    Specific Duties & Responsibilities

    _Inpatient Care_

    + Evaluate and manage inpatient consults under supervision, progressing to independent practice with faculty support.

    + Assist in procedures (inside and outside of the operating room), including airway endoscopy, nasal endoscopy, swallow evaluations, control of epistaxis, incision and drainage, biopsies, and tympanostomy tube placement; PA will perform some procedures independently after completion of supervised training and demonstrated competency.

    + Develop, coordinate, and lead multidisciplinary tracheostomy rounds.

    + Collaborate with attending surgeons, house staff, nursing, and allied health teams to ensure seamless patient care from admission through discharge.

    + Communicate directly with ED, ICU, inpatient, and surgical teams to optimize transitions of care. Facilitate patient order and discharge education as necessary.

    _Outpatient Care_

    + Support attending surgeons in outpatient clinics.

    + Conduct routine independent clinic sessions after completion of supervised training and demonstrated competency.

    + Work with nursing triage to address complex patient issues, including postoperative concerns and chronic pediatric otolaryngologic conditions.

    + Provide patient and family education with emphasis on compassionate communication and shared decision-making.

    _Program Development & Innovation_

    + Develop and implement standardized perioperative care protocols.

    + Create and refine electronic order sets, case requests, and consent pathways to enhance efficiency and safety.

    + Participate in, and help organize, multidisciplinary conferences focused on comprehensive patient management in pediatric otolaryngology.

    + Collaborate with peers and institutional APP networks to share best practices and support professional development.

    _Professional Expectations_

    + Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to work in diverse clinical settings (inpatient, outpatient, OR).

    + Navigate the electronic medical record (EMR) to optimize patient care and workflow efficiency.

    + Engage in quality improvement initiatives and service development projects.

    + Model patient-centered care and foster trust with children, families, and colleagues.

    Additional Knowledge, skills, & Abilities

    + Possess a comprehensive understanding of clinical and/or surgical procedures, patient care procedures, medical protocols and testing procedures.

    + Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, chemistry, psychology, pharmacology, clinical medicine, radiology, microbiology and pathology.

    + Possess the analytical ability necessary to evaluate and determine health status of patients and implement proper care plan.

    + Possess interpersonal skills necessary to interview, teach and counsel patients and work in teams with physician attending, residents and nursing; instruct health care personnel on procedures and treatment.

    + Possess the ability to analyze and evaluate patient history, physical examination findings and laboratory values, and makes preliminary diagnosis of patients for review by physician.

    Minimum Qualifications

    + Bachelor's Degree; Certification by the NCCPA or similar national certifying body; Completion of a CAAHEP certified Physician Assistant program.

    + Must be licensed as PA in State of Maryland or other state where practicing.

    + Current CPR certification is required.

    + Must maintain current licensure and certification during duration of employment.

    + Completion of the JHH credentialing process is required prior to start date.

    + Experience may be considered in lieu of bachelor's degree, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

    + Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Related experience or education in a pediatric, surgical, and/or procedure-oriented field strongly preferred.

     

    Classified Title: Physician Assistant

    Role/Level/Range: ACRP/04/MG

    Starting Salary Range: $100,000 - $152,900 Annually ($120,100 targeted; Commensurate w/exp.)

     

    Employee group: Full Time

     

    Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am-5:30pm

     

    FLSA Status: Exempt

    The listed salary range represents the minimum and maximum Johns Hopkins University offers for this position, based on a good faith estimate at the time of posting. Actual compensation will vary depending on factors such as location, skills, experience, market conditions, education, and internal equity. Not all candidates will qualify for the highest salary in the range.
