We are looking for an experienced technical training manager to join the Newell Brands supply chain team who will lead the development and launch of a companywide technical training program to increase the capabilities of the shop floor workforce across multiple Business Units globally. The manager hired for this role will be responsible to develop a program that trains technicians and technical operators within Newell Brands various business units. The technical training strategy will include working with external vendors to assess and train Newell Brands employees while building, staffing, developing content for internal regional training centers. The manager will engage with internal customers such as, human resources, site leadership, business unit leadership, global automation group, engineering center for collaboration, and PEAK group to ensure training is aligned and meets stakeholders needs. The candidate must be self-directed and have experience managing technical multi-craft training programs with multiple stakeholders. This position will be based out of Maryville, TN and requires up to 25% travel.
Job Responsibilities
• Effectively manage team of technical trainers
• Assess instructional effectiveness and determine the impact of training on employee skills and KPIs
• Design and develop training programs based on a formal skills assessment (outsourced and/or in-house)
• Train & develop the skills and capabilities within the organization and Business Units required to enable our automation strategy and retention goals.
• Training program course content will include hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical, blueprint & schematics reading, motion control, motor controls & sensors, plc, automation controls, automation maintenance, maintenance planning, and other maintenance and engineering specialties.
• Communicate with site and business unit leadership to develop, coordinate, and train employees
• Use known education principles and stay up to date on new training methods and techniques
• Liaise with industry experts
• Develop technical course content both for novices and experts
• Train production employees to perform autonomous maintenance tasks required to increase uptime and OEE.
• Work with business units to support pay for performance strategy and support as a primary means to develop and validate skills
• Manage all certifications, training schedules, vendor training, testing and archive all training records
• Commission regional training centers through the development of specifications for standard trainers, defining classroom technology platforms, developing vendor partnerships, and working with local teams to contract classroom buildout.
• Explore opportunities to use available grant money for training expenses
Skills and Qualifications
• Excellent presentation and communication skills both written and verbal.
• Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and assignments simultaneously
• Computer skills to include MS Office, especially PowerPoint and Word.
• Teamwork and project management skills
• Proven ability to complete a full training cycle (assess needs, plan, develop, coordinate, monitor and evaluate)
• Experience with e-learning platforms
• Strong communication skills
• Knowledge of web-based learning platforms and modern educational techniques
• General knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical, blueprint & schematics reading, motion control, motor controls & sensors, plc, automation controls, automation maintenance, maintenance planning, and other maintenance and engineering specialties
Education and Experience
• 5 years’ experience with technical training programs in a production or manufacturing environment
• 2 years’ experience managing training programs
• Maintenance/Engineering background
• Bachelor’s degree is required. Engineering Degree preferred in either Mechanical or Electrical discipline
