Consulting Associate (Defense & Security Programs – Overseas Deployment)

    Base of Recruitment: United States

Reports to: Project Lead / Program Director

    Overview

Command Group — a Washington, DC–based national-security and consulting firm — is seeking mid to high level U.S. military veterans to join our team as Consulting Associates supporting a series of defense and security modernization programs across the Gulf region.

These programs help partner nations strengthen institutional capacity, improve readiness, and modernize defense organizations. Consulting Associates work as part of embedded teams alongside senior Command advisors, analysts, and regional experts — applying operational experience, analytical skill, and professionalism to deliver impact at the national level.

We are moving quickly to expand our in-country teams and are looking for individuals who are ready and able to travel in the immediate term. Assignments are based in safe, non-austere locations with five-star accommodations and modern infrastructure, providing a comfortable living and working environment throughout the engagement.

This is an outstanding opportunity for transitioning or recently separated military professionals to apply their experience in a strategic consulting setting overseas while continuing to contribute to global security and defense missions.

    Key Responsibilities

    Strategic Analysis & Planning

+ Conduct structured research and analysis on defense, security, and institutional development topics.

+ Support the design of strategies, capability frameworks, and organizational improvement plans.

+ Translate operational insights into clear, actionable recommendations for leadership.

    Project Execution & Delivery

+ Contribute to the production of high-quality written and visual deliverables — reports, briefings, and presentations that communicate complex analysis clearly and persuasively.

+ Participate in workshops, planning sessions, and scenario exercises with client counterparts.

+ Ensure assigned workstreams are executed to Command’s high professional standards.

    Collaboration & Integration

+ Work within diverse, multidisciplinary teams that include international consultants, local counterparts, and subject-matter experts.

+ Support coordination between U.S.-based and in-country project teams.

+ Operate effectively in dynamic, cross-cultural settings requiring adaptability and professionalism.

    Qualifications & Experience

+ Former U.S. military officer (O-3 to O-6)  with strong planning, operations, or institutional experience.

+ Demonstrated analytical, writing, and presentation skills.

+ Experience preparing structured, professional briefings or reports.

+ Prior exposure to joint, interagency, or coalition environments preferred.

+ Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree a plus.

+ Must be willing to deploy full-time to the Gulf region in the near term with paid vacation and periodic remote work rotations back to the United States.

    Competencies

+ Analytical and strategic thinker with sound operational judgment.

+ Strong communicator and effective collaborator.

+ Organized and adaptable; thrives in fast-paced, results-oriented environments.

+ Professional integrity and discretion in sensitive contexts.

+ Mission-driven and eager to contribute in meaningful, international settings.

    Term and Location

+ Base: Gulf Region (embedded with Command project teams).

+ Recruitment: United States (pre-deployment interviews and onboarding conducted domestically).

+ Environment: Safe, modern, non-austere locations with five-star accommodations and facilities.

+ Travel: Periodic regional or international travel may be required.
