We are looking for a technical and hands-on Materials Manager to lead material planning, procurement, inventory control, and logistics for a fast-paced manufacturing operation specializing in industrial equipment and mechanical parts. The ideal candidate will have deep experience in material requirements planning (MRP), supplier management, and component-level procurement for machined, fabricated, and assembled parts.

This role plays a critical function in aligning supply chain activities with production schedules, engineering changes, and customer delivery commitments. Success in this position requires a strong understanding of mechanical BOM structures, machining tolerances, fabrication processes, and ERP systems.

    Key Responsibilities

    Material Planning & Procurement

+ Develop and maintain material planning models based on BOMs, lead times, lot sizes, and production forecasts.

+ Analyze material requirements and generate purchase orders (POs) to ensure on-time availability of components, raw materials, and subassemblies.

+ Ensure material coverage and availability for build-to-order (BTO), make-to-stock (MTS), and engineer-to-order (ETO) manufacturing environments.

    + Coordinate purchasing activities for:

+ Precision machined parts (CNC, turning, milling)

+ Fabricated assemblies (weldments, sheet metal)

+ Mechanical components (bearings, seals, gears, fasteners)

+ Electrical components (motors, sensors, cables) – if applicable

+ Interface with Engineering on ECNs (Engineering Change Notices) to manage material phase-in/phase-out planning and inventory disposition.

    Inventory Control & Logistics

+ Oversee inventory accuracy through cycle counting, reconciliation, and root cause analysis of variances.

+ Implement lean material flow strategies (Kanban, min/max, reorder point) to optimize stock levels and reduce carrying costs.

+ Manage warehouse operations including receiving, stocking, staging, kitting, and internal logistics to the production floor.

+ Track and expedite critical components to avoid production downtime.

+ Coordinate inbound and outbound shipments; ensure compliance with freight, customs, and packaging requirements.

    Supplier Management & Cost Control

+ Qualify and manage suppliers, negotiate terms, and evaluate performance (OTD, quality, responsiveness).

+ Partner with Leadership to manage supplier non-conformance issues (NCRs) and implement corrective actions.

+ Identify and execute cost reduction opportunities through alternate sourcing, order consolidation, and lead time reduction.

    Systems & Reporting

+ Utilize ERP/MRP system (e.g., SAP, Epicor, Infor, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics) for planning, purchasing, and inventory control.

+ Maintain item master data, lead times, safety stock, and reorder points.

+ Generate and present KPI dashboards: inventory turns, days on hand (DOH), PO accuracy, supplier OTD, etc.

    Qualifications

    Required

+ Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.

+ Minimum 5 years of experience in materials or supply chain management in a manufacturing environment.

+ Strong technical understanding of mechanical drawings, tolerances, and BOM hierarchies.

+ Proficiency in MRP/ERP systems and advanced Excel (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, data analysis).

+ Proven track record in material planning, procurement, and inventory optimization.

+ Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles, Kanban, and 5S.

    Preferred

+ Experience with SAP and ADP.

+ Familiarity with ISO 9001 or AS9100 quality systems.

+ Working knowledge of production planning in job shop or batch manufacturing environments.

    Work Environment

+ Split between office, production floor, and warehouse.

+ Must be comfortable reviewing physical inventory, resolving receiving issues, and working with cross-functional teams (engineering, quality, production).
