    _The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations._

    Responsibilities:

    Oversees the day-to-day activities of the stationary engineers. Coordinates with the maintenance crew, electrical crew, outside distribution, and water treatment staff to ensure the needs of the department are met. Oversees the operation of chilled water, steam, hot water, and electricity associated with those aspects of the utilities distribution.

    Essential Functions:

    + Supervises a staff of represented employees per University Policies and Procedures and recognized collective bargaining agreement. Serves as a technical expert for operating engineers to assist with successful plant operation. Assesses employee performance periodically, ensuring evaluations are timely and constructive. Interviews, hires, and trains new stationary engineers. Recommends and encourages professional and technical development of staff. Responds and/or contributes to grievances filed by Central Utilities employees. Works directly with HR and Labor Relations to resolve employee issues. Oversees timekeeping for staff while ensuring staff maintain compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

    + Develops Operating Procedures and supports the maintenance department’s procedure development. Implements operating procedures. Ensures communication and compliance with University policies and procedures throughout the department.Participates in Departmental Policy and Procedure review. Develops Maintenance and Standard Operating Procedures. Identifies areas and issues that are policy-deficient and drafts new policies. Trains, implements, and audits policies and procedures.

    + Ensures all pertinent safety records are documented in collaboration with administrative staff, and ensures compliance with all employee-mandated health and safety surveillance standards. Ensures all equipment and procedures related to OSHA are maintained to standard and all necessary training is scheduled. Works with the other Central Utilities Management staff in performing job hazard analysis (JHA) and Lock Out/Tag Out procedures (LOTO).

    + Responsible for the implementation of maintenance and outage activities. Provides outage reports to management to summarize significant events. Coordinates work assignment(s) and the Integrated Work Management System through scheduled maintenance, predictive maintenance, and emergent repairs to ensure uninterrupted operations. Creates and approves material and service requisitions necessary for maintenance, repairs, and projects.

    + Provides recommendations to management on plant upgrades and enhancements that improve the reliability, efficiency, performance, safety, or environmental readiness of the plant. Assists in the planning of maintenance and outage activities. Implements maintenance and outage activities; provides outage reports to management to summarize significant events. Demonstrates the ability to make competent decisions in emergency situations.

    + Seeks opportunities to reduce costs through different operations and maintenance procedures. Manages expenditures of all maintenance and repair items. Approves requisitions requested by department Working Leaders. Provides input on future capital and maintenance items.

    + Other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Education & Experience:

    + Bachelor’s degree in a technical field and 4 years of mechanical experience in a plant or related environment required.

    + Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    + A very high degree of technical expertise in running and maintaining water systems infrastructure required.

    + Licenses and Certifications:

    + 2nd Class Stationary Engineer License required.

    + Ability to obtain a Chief Stationary Engineer License within six months of hire preferred.
