    Job Summary

    The Institute for Firearm Injury Prevention is a transdisciplinary institute that works to engage the breadth of expertise across the University of Michigan, with input from nonacademic stakeholders, to generate knowledge and advance solutions that will decrease firearm injury in the United States. The Institute for Firearm Injury Prevention supports implementation of extreme risk protection order (ERPO) policies and protocols statewide through the newly created Michigan Firearm Law Implementation Program (M-FLIP). M-FLIP will conduct comprehensive needs assessments, provide training and technical assistance, host a statewide conference, and disseminate evidence-based tools and resources to law enforcement agencies, healthcare networks, schools and school districts, community violence intervention (CVI) organizations, and victim advocacy groups across Michigan. M-FLIP will also conduct a continuous study of the use of Michigan's ERPO law as well as conduct a statewide survey of firearm owners in the state of Michigan.

     

    M-FLIP seeks a highly skilled Project Coordinator to work closely with the M-FLIP team to help develop, design, and conduct M-FLIP projects, trainings, and product development. Key initial activities include developing training/technical assistance materials for ERPO implementers, working with the PI to conduct an assessment of ERPO usage in Michigan, and various administrative tasks. At the intermediate level, activities also include program evaluation for both M-FLIP trainees and for internal M-FLIP review. The ideal candidate is familiar with firearm injury-related laws and policies, particularly around ERPO and secure firearm storage, is a strong and robust communicator, and has experience working with firearm injury prevention research or related fields.

    Responsibilities*

    The job functions of this role will include, but are not limited to:

    (At the intermediate level) Support a comprehensive needs assessment review of ERPO stakeholders, provide sustained program evaluation for stakeholder policies and procedures

     

    (At the intermediate level) Review progress and evaluate results of key M-FLIP projects and programs

     

    Assist in the development of technical assistance (TA) and training materials and program evaluation to ERPO stakeholders across sectors

     

    Work with investigators to develop, design, and conduct a variety of research and implementation projects

     

    Create and disseminate evidence-based training and resources to Michigan ERPO practitioners, develop learning communities around ERPO implementation

     

    Assist in the organization of an ERPO implementer conference

     

    Draft language and content for M-FLIP materials and programs such as for the newsletter, policy briefs, website, pilot research funding and internship programs, and other communications and activities

     

    Assist the PI in ongoing research activities assessing ERPO effectiveness and usage in Michigan

     

    Assist in the development of a state-level survey of firearm owners in Michigan

     

    Communicate on a consistent basis with team members, colleagues, and funders, providing input on project goals, objectives, and operations.

    Required Qualifications*

    Bachelor's degree (associate level) or Master's degree (intermediate level) in public health, social work, education, or a related field.

     

    1-3 years (associate level) or 4-5 years (intermediate level) of experience in education, social services, public health, law enforcement, or a related field

     

    Experience working with multiple populations and stakeholders including community groups

     

    Effective organization and management of multiple priorities in a complex environment

     

    Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

     

    Careful attention to detail

     

    Ability to work independently and as a successful team member

    Desired Qualifications*

    Experience with academic research enterprises including: externally sponsored research, research administration, and funding sources.

     

    Proven ability to facilitate collaborative projects, supporting stakeholders and ensuring project requirements are met

     

    Strong ability to anticipate stakeholder needs

     

    Demonstrated knowledge of firearm injury prevention is preferred, but not necessary.
