    Job Title: Senior Staff Designer

     

    FLSA: Exempt

     

    Reports To: Engineering Manager / Engineering Team Lead

    SUMMARY: The Senior Staff Designer leads the design and development of complex mechanical, industrial, or product systems within a manufacturing environment. This role combines advanced technical expertise with creative problem-solving to translate engineering requirements and production goals into practical, high-performance designs. They collaborate closely with cross-functional teams—including engineering, production, quality, and supply chain—to ensure manufacturability, cost efficiency, and compliance with safety and industry standards.

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: other duties will be assigned in a progressive manner.

     

    • Designs and documents mechanical and electromechanical products and systems.

    • Optimizes designs for efficient, high-volume production, considering assembly processes, tooling requirements, and cost-effective manufacturing techniques.

    • Applies advanced problem-solving methodologies to complex technical challenges encountered during design development process.

    • Develops CAD models and drafts design concepts in support of assigned engineering activities.

    • Experience with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) for defining critical features and tolerances for manufacturing.

    • Performs tolerance stacks as required to ensure robust designs are finalized.

    • Reviews materials required for cost effectiveness and suitability for designs.

    • Creates full drawing packages for prototype and production designs.

    • Responsible for initiating and facilitating detailed design reviews and other meetings as necessary to support the engineering activities requirements.

    • Assures the design is robust, meets cost targets, meets customer specifications, and is supported with engineering justification documentation.

    • Responsible for on time release of designs and paperwork (BOM, Engineering Drawings, etc.).

    • Ensure drawing package for products meets customer and functional design requirements.

    • Develop necessary DV and PV validation plans and initiate test lab requests.

    • Writes and submits for approval Engineering Releases for new products.

    • Initiates and implements Engineering Changes for existing designs.

    • Updates ERP system to ensure BOM and Revisions on drawings and ERP system are in sync.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Experience in field / related field, and/or a combination of education and experience. Preferred technical skills: Professional experience and proficiency in the use of PTC Creo 3D modeling and 2D drawing creation, knowledge of ASME y14.5 drawing standards with Geometric Tolerancing, MS-Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), experience with analysis software tools, FEA Creo Simulate, Ansys, Abaqus), CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics), knowledge of materials science and their effects on design, proficiency in sheet metal design, proficiency in designing injection molded parts.
