This opportunity entails performing non-routine and complex assignments at an advance proficiency level, involving responsibility for a variety of traffic operations projects. This position is responsible for managing a team of engineers and the production and review of project plans, signal and access designs, traffic engineering studies and other related reporting, site investigations, construction plan reviews, and other traffic operations related engineering work. Perform research, development, calculations, reviews, design, field visits and delivery in partnership with the project team. Applies engineering techniques, procedures and design criteria for projects ranging in size and complexity. Leverages technical knowledge and experience to assist in the execution and evaluation of project designs. Develops conceptual and detailed designs and calculations to support the project execution using current drawing and technical tools, programs and software.

As a member of the team, you will contribute to the successful project delivery for a diverse range of projects for the DOT. In this role, you will work directly with a District Traffic Operations office to support production and delivery on a variety of traffic operations projects. This is an opportunity gain exposure to all aspects of traffic operations in a fast-paced environment. You will report directly to the District Office located in Cartersville, GA.

What You’ll Do:

+ Responsible for verifying the accuracy of drawings, compatibility of work across disciplines and for checking detail and quantity calculations. Calculates design data, prepares layouts, detailed specifications, estimates, reports, etc.

+ Assists in preparing engineering studies and evaluations involved in the development of projects from initial concept to the design stage, with the assistance from the project engineer/architect.

+ Attends project and pre-construction meetings and provides input to ensure proper policies, procedures, and specifications are followed.

+ Responsible for resolving technical design problems that may include performing field investigation or inspections, detailed design work and data.

+ Performs general administrative assistance by maintaining complex project plans. May develop documentation, prepare project management report and monitors accomplishments as related to targeted goals.

+ Makes recommendations regarding process improvement for project delivery at the office level.

+ Calculates quantities and performs engineering related computations.

+ Performs other duties as assigned.

What You’ll Need:

+ Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology or related field and 6 years of relevant experience, or

+ Associate of Science in Drafting or Technical School or related and 8 years of relevant experience, or

+ In lieu education, 10 years of relevant experience

What You'll Bring:

+ Ability to work effectively and participate in working relationships with clients and sub-contractors.

+ Experience working with GDOT Districts and an understanding of the day-to-day workload.

+ Proficient in the terminology and symbols used in survey notes, plans, shop drawings, aerial photographs, and maps related to a specific Engineering sub-type.

+ Proven communication and project management skills

+ Experience providing senior level professional support training and mentoring junior staff.

What We Prefer:

+ Prior experience working at a GDOT District.

+ Proven experience working in a fast-paced environment managing multiple multidisciplinary projects.

+ Experience in construction management, quick response projects, and field plan reviews.

+ 15+ years of relevant project experience.
