Job Description
This position exists to perform semi-skilled and maintenance work on buildings and internal systems throughout the campus, such as but not limited to plumbing, electrical and mechanical equipment and machinery. This position must respond to unpredictable and emergency situations as they occur on the 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. shift and when on call or when called in on an emergency basis. This position is also responsible for maintaining fire extinguishers in residential and dining facilities.
This position has been designated as weather and emergency essential. In the event of a short-term University closure or emergency event, incumbent is required to report to work and respond as requested. Minimum Qualifications
+ Knowledge of general methods and practices of a variety of trade areas (e.g. mechanics, masonry, welding, electrical, plumbing and carpentry) sufficient to assist licensed trades workers and to repair machinery, tools and facilities in a timely and safe manner.
+ Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety measures related to trades work sufficient to safely and efficiently perform the job duties.
+ Ability to safely use hand and power hand tools.
+ Safely operate and maintain trucks, tractors and other ground and road maintenance equipment.
+ Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
+ Ability to provide work instructions to unskilled helpers.
+ Must have the ability to perform physical demanding tasks such as lifting, carrying and bending.
Preferred Qualification
+ Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.
+ Five years of experience in commercial/academic building repair.
+ One year of post-secondary training from a technical college or military in building repair-related field.
+ Possess basic computer skills needed to effectively interact with the Maintenance Management system and the Outlook email system.

This position requires a passing background check under Minnesota Statutes 299C.66 to 299C.71 – Kari Koskinen Manager Background Check Act. It is expected that the employee maintains the ability to pass applicable background check throughout employment. It is the employee’s responsibility to notify the supervisor no later than the beginning of your next shift of any charges, allegations, convictions that may impact their standing under the applicable background check.
Incumbent shall be able to lift 50 pounds, twist and bend, climb step ladders, ships ladders, and be able to service overhead equipment. Must have the ability to manipulate small parts and use hand and power tools. As part of this work the incumbent must be able to align parts and install fasteners such as screws, bolts, nuts, and clamps. Incumbent must be able to grip, lift, and manipulate moderately heavy objects such as desk furniture and repair materials.
